$1,500 Windfall

Postby oldbuddy » 29 Dec 2015, 22:31

I keep preaching about having your own website with a domain name you own and yesterday I got another confirmation that it is a good idea. In 2005 I bought a domain name to promote my opportunities from and have used it ever since.

It wasn't the only one I have purchased since then, but a couple of weeks ago someone emailed me and asked if they could buy it. Since it's a four letter .com domain with a keyword in the short name, it is very much in demand. He offered me $1,000 for it and I told him it was not for sale.

Well last night he sent me another email and raised the offer to $1,500 and I couldn't resist. Even if you count all the renewal fees I paid I still only have spent a couple hundred dollars on it and used it to earn more than that, so basically it's $1,500 in free money.

So do you think that adds to the pressure to get your own blog?

Wow congrats that is pretty awesome. I still have an active domain but it is set to expire in May. Sadly I will probably not have the money to keep it going it is a .com one as well so that sucks. It was a start at a work at home type website. I stopped working on it since I know I won't have the cash to keep it going. I use blogger because it is free but it feels so unprofessional using blogger, when I could have a domain name and nicer website builder.

I second the above poster. Congratulations. You did state that blogging does not make you happy so maybe you should sell the domain?

Blogging doesn't make me happy, but the money it brings in sure does. This is just icing on the cake.

Wow, that fantastic @oldbuddy! Well done on that, what a way to start 2016, ei? I like your pragmatic way of looking at things LOL "Blogging doesn't make me happy, but the money it brings in sure does." Way to go! Maybe this should be my new mantra hehe

Hey @oldbuddy Congrats for the deal. I know a lot of people ( not in reality but form blog posts ) that make a good amount of money just by buying and selling domain name, and it is a good way to make money if you have knowledge about the domain, their value, their demand etc. and most importantly you need patience.

These days, it's hard to get such a good four word keyword oriented domain name .

A lot can change over 10 years. In projecting 10 more years into the future it may be just as lucrative to have a long tail domain name than a four letter one today. I have one I am using now that is two words and 10 letters, but already appraised at $500.

I am awe with such offering and price for your blog which is SEO sticky probably. Blogging alone and with some ads thereon you couldn't earn $1,500 even in a year or so. I am going to convert that money in our country's currency. It is PhP67,500. It is already my one month salary and a half.

Anyway, you could create another blog and develop it to earn another juicy income.

That's great. I only own one right now, and I doubt that it would be of interest to anyone. I should have studied more, before creating the name as well. I'll have to put more thought into it for future endeavors. Glad you are enjoying the spoils of your efforts.

You can't make money studying about it, you need to take a little risk and move forward. If you pick a goo domain name you can use to make money other ways, you come out a winner no matter what happens.

Congrats, @oldbuddy. That is awesome. I wish that I knew more about domains and everything as that seems the way to go. Holding out was definitely the way to go in your case even though you were not initially going to sell. I do not think hat I would be able to resist selling either at that price.

You simply register your choice with an official registrar and pay the fees required for that particular name. Most of the registrars have the various prices listed on their website and often have sales for the first year. I try to stick with .com names and still have found them on sale for as low as 99 cents. In fact some web hosting companies include one for free if you use their servers to host your pages.

I have registered and hosted over 1,000 websites over the last 16 years, so if you have any questions or would like advice, feel free to message me here.

That is a good news to share but what exactly do you mean by saying, blogging doesn't make you happy but the money it brings.
On the contrary, I think I'll be happier if I make more money blogging because I will be motivated
