My opinion is the main priority for a blog should the content, so my favorite theme is simply called, "Simple" and it is. Very minimalist and easy to read.

Selecting a theme for a blogsite under the wordpress platform is a matter of personal choice. Suggestions coming from friends and other helpful fellows could help much. Well, this is my unsolicited advice, better reconsider the niche of your blog and find the built-in themes in WP suited for such niche of your blog. For your information, I have a WP blog and its them is simple for I know simplicity purports clarity, orderliness and peace of mind.

Don't overlook the possibility of using an template to create your own HTML5 CSS3 website that will be much faster than WordPress and with no database it foils the hackers.

I use the theme eighties. I cannot complain about it. It is a free theme. My WordPress blog is the free version. A theme has the ability to capture the attention of readers and also a good theme should be easy for your own use.

You can capture attention right here with a signature link to your blog, or if you don't want to spend the 100 Forum Coins try adding the little Globe under your picture on the left by editing your profile and that's free.

Keep in mind, if you want to make money from a blog it's the CONTENT that pays, not the design. So I try to keep people absorbing the content and not getting distracted by the eye candy.

There are many themes in Wordpress that suit for magazine styles, but I am using the chalkboard theme for my blog. It's not fitting for magazines.

I agree with @oldbuddy, it is the content that make me go back and keep reading a blog, if the contetn doesn't appeal to me, I don't go back. It doesn't matter the design.

I guess it depends on you, on how your blog should appear in your eyes. Once you apply it, check it if it looks user friendly, does your picture appear very big or very small, the font, the color of the background. It depends on you really.

Selection of theme is a personal choice. Concept and comfort vary from person to person. You have to select a theme that looks cool to your eyes and gives more satisfaction to your mind.

After seeing you and some other bloggers I really believe that that content does pay. But we can't deny the crucial role of the design. What I found out is if you have a very niche site the content is the most important. However, if your target reader is broader, the design plays a significant role to catch and keep their interest long enough to hook on your content. At the end of the day, it's the content that count.

I always prefer minimalist themes with white color background. The contents along with theme attract more people.Personally I don't like dark colored sites.

This may be true for some, but after 16 years searching and reading pages online daily, I can't think of one blog I visit because I like the looks of the pages. I can recall several that bring me back because I find value in the content and decide to receive updates from them to keep in touch. Now that I think of it, they are usually black text on a white background with a few color images sprinkled around.

Dear oldbuddy, I do visit or leave some sites because of its interface. But it never just depends on the look alone, as well as the content.

Plain black and white sites can be attractive if you do it right. As I said, maybe you are interested in a very niche field. Which means you already know what you are looking for and you are willing to spend time and effort for it. Therefore, the design doesn't matter.

People nowadays in general are impatient. You need appealing design to get them hooked on your content first. And then they will come back if it's really good. Plus, if I can find similar information easily somewhere else I would go to the better looking sites.

I'll say at the end of the day, content is the one that matters. But we need the design at the beginning first.
Researches and studies have been done and it is proved that we actually need a balance of both for different target audience.
