Do you only allow posts that you agree with?

Postby thisnthat » 12 Apr 2016, 13:30

If you are a forum owner, do you moderate all content before allowing it to be posted? Do you delete any posts that don't share your opinion?

I've seen sites like this and heard about them from others (some here). I'd like to know, what's the point? Why would anyone want to stifle discussion and debate and sit around in an echo chamber?

I think everyone should be free to air their opinions in a forum so long you don' t attack others or use obscene languages.

The idea of deleting posts that are opposing to your views I think looks uncivilized and I wouldn't like to think there are forum owners that do that.

I allow all sorts of posts on my forum. I think it's wrong to disallow posts because I don't necessarily agree or understand them. As long as posts are on-topic and I can understand what they're trying to say, I'm okay with it.

I think if someone is not out of topic it's okay to let them write Dow their thoughts I wouldn't distract anyone because you never know why they are sharing that post

If I own a forum, I would allow all sorts of posts, unless it is offensive, racism, and bullying. I like different views, strong opinions, and people with strong back bones to stand up for what is right!

I believe that if a site only wants those members whose own opinions are inline with the moderators or site owners, it should be stated upfront, not in small print that most people don't bother to read anyways.
As long as a post doesn't 'hurt' anyone else with bullying, racism or uses vulgar language, it should not be a problem. You can learn a lot sometimes, just by 'listening' to someone else's way of looking at things.

I do not have a forum, but it seems only fitting to allow posts of the opposite view point than your own. Not everyone agrees with everything that you believe or think the same way you do. Even if you agree with points of a person's opinion, you still have different thoughts. It would make the forum a little boring if all the posts were of the same viewpoint. I like being able to see how others think and sometimes you can find a different perspective that may change how you think about something.

I will not delete a post unless it is vulgar and disrespectful to other users in the group. I think a person should take their time to think before they speak.

I didn't have the chance to own a forum but there are times I encounter similar things with people leaving comments on my blog. To me, so long as the comment was done with respect, it can be a healthy form of discussion and I might even pick up a few insights from the opposite opinion. I guess it all boils down on the manner the comment was made.

Any forum that doesn't allow content with which the owner disagrees will not last long. There has to be a wide variety of opinions on each subject; that's what makes forums interesting.

I personally don't own a forum, but do participate in quite a few via PostLoop. I've heard of forum owners doing that and I think it's just silly. I think as long as the posters observe the forum rules and respectfully put their arguments across, even if they oppose the forum owner's own position on the matter being discussed, they should all be allowed.

Indeed. We can learn a lot by listening to what others have to say. We may still not agree with them, but at least we learn other points of view or why they feel the way they do about a certain topic. "Discussion" is not a one way street.

It's plain and simple. Nobody (including you and i ) will tolerate any sort of unruly behavior in a forum just because one enjoys the right to express. I've observed that some people (members) start creating mess if something happens with them that they don't like. They forget that rules of a site can't be changed to please a particular person.

There are forums on PL that do this, and they are still going and still up. But then again it speaks volumes to the fact that they have to keep paying posters to post.

I guess there are times when the definition of becoming "unruly" is objective. We all have the right to express and it actually depends "how" we express it the way other people perceive the message. So it can be a healthy form of discussion to disagree but just me mindful how to send the message across.

I believe that if a web {site} solely needs those members whose own opinions area unit inline with the moderators or site homeowners, it ought to be expressed direct, not in little print that almost all folks do not trouble to scan anyways.
As long as a post does not 'hurt' anyone else with bullying, racism or uses vulgar language, it mustn't be a haul. you'll be able to learn plenty generally, simply by 'listening' to somebody else's method of observing things.

The forums I have joined are so expressed in their rules that no insulting post, degrading discussion in any form or presentation for it defeats the purpose of the forum which is for discussion and for the meeting of the mind of those participants and not to create misunderstanding, curse and condemnation among the members.

I think it would be unfair to delete posts which are not passing with the personal opinion of the forum's owner. However, the posts instigating to violence or racism I would delete if I would be a forum owner.

If comments on your blog articles could be considered to be posts, then I have to admit that I only allow posts/comments on my articles that I agree with. The point of the blog is to make money, and any comment that goes against that goal, I discard.

As a moderator of the posts in a forum I think you are suppose to be indifferent about the views being expressed by people there. People's opinions must differ and that is part of the spice of the game.
