Topic Ideas

Postby Sam » 11 Sep 2013, 02:30

How do you get ideas for new topics?

A tip that I have is to signup, if you haven't already, for analytics. The keywords that people are finding your site with generally spark ideas. I've done this a few times to help out Plato at WebGurubb (as he gave me access to analytics).

I have never been good at coming up with good topics. I usually only post topics when something randomly pops into my head, or if I need help with something.

I usually get random topics popping up in my head so I quickly go and post them on my forum. I think to myself, "will the other members enjoy this topic? Will it be worthwhile to them to post in the topic?"

I have a hard time coming up with ideas. I usually try to think of new ones based on what I see around me or what topics seem to be trending. I also bring in outside posting to help with building up content on occasions.

Oh I really like that idea with looking for the keywords. What an amazing idea. I'm going to have to steal that. For me some forums I go on and can just come up with post after post, topic after topic on a variety of discussions but then I could go to a same-genre forum the day after and not be able to think of anything.

I have been working as Packager for many months ( or years ), so I am obliged to post new and interesting topics. How do I do that? Just visiting websites and forums daily in order to find some new ideas.

The most catchy topics are the ones that is happening on the reality, or by just reading some blogs on the other site that catches your attention easily. So why don't you try it to catch others attention. :)

I thought you were talking about blog topics. If so, I never have trouble coming up with topics for mine, since it's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I have notebooks full of ideas. My problem is finding enough to work on all the projects, take photos and upload and prepare my images, then write it up, optimize it, and get it posted.

If you're talking about forum posts, I usually just read for a while, and then I end up having some ideas. I also bounce between sites, so I get some inspiration for topics while talking to people in other places about different things.

I don't know I get some from the top of my head sometimes. I even sit and brainstorm sometimes. Other times I use forums or other sources to get ideas for stuff people may want to read or for people who have questions, etc. Good topics are not always easy though especially if what you want to write about has been written 100 times already online.

That's true. It's hard when a subject has already been done a lot. You just have to find a way to put your own spin on it, or add to it in some way.

Sometimes, asking questions instead of giving answers is a good way to deal with topics like that. Get your readers to talk about it, which will often spark some inspiration.

It depends in wich part of the forum you want to create the topic. But some ideas are: something you saw on the news, advertise other sites on the internet, ask simple questions that help to get to know each other for example!
Just use your imagination and follow the rules! Read other forums for ideas if you need :)
