Things that makes you not want to visit a website again

Postby Netherrealmer » 17 Oct 2019, 11:09

I know you need ads to keep your websites alive but video ads is the reason why many people rather look for their news on social media instead of news sites. People want to read an article but the article is either blocked by a video ad or worst a force registration.

Many forums are dying because of those annoying video ads too. Video ads should be on Youtube not on a text based site people visit because they want to read. It also alienates smartphone users due to the data videos consume.

I also hate those websites with an automatic music playlist. Not everyone have the same taste in music.

The problem is that the sites impose many unwanted things on members forcibly.

What is with those websites that uses flash on their engine in 2019!! Flash is already obsolete. I hate being blocked by a wall asking me to install adobe on a very updated browser!

i know what you mean about video ads. But people put them on their sites just beacause
they have a very high pay out. But yes better to have image and text based ads to not annoying viewers.

So as not to alienate users, customers etc, perhaps those sites that force video ads on you should give you the option to opt-in to get video ads; better yet perhaps they should reduce the bounce rate by sharing the revenue with the customer.

Yes, I agree, video-ads which block the screen is the most annoying thing I have ever seen. Or some pop-ups. Or some forced registration. Lots of captcha which you have to type for some reason, many things, you know.
The problem is how to make a website profitable, user-friendly, responsive, adaptive, protected from bots, spam, etc. It is difficult to combine, you know.

Force registration and forced notification subscriptions are annoying too.

I agree with everything you've mentioned, @fergus1234. I absolutely hate it when a site tries to force some sort of registration and notifications on me before I've even read something on it. I usually click right off and go elsewhere. Don't even get me started on the various types of cheap ads blocking and interrupting my reading experience. Just horrible.

I also hate those sites that puts every single article in existence in one page slowing down the speed when you only want to read one article. I also loathes forced captchas.

The main thing is slow loading pages. But I try to hang around a little bit because sometimes ... I don't know if it's the website or my laptop. But slow loading pages is definitely a turn off.

When a site has ads that are lewd and placed in a way that makes you click on them is a real put off for me. Sites that load slow, poor content and insist that you join or subscribe to them is a no, no.
Pop ups are a pain too. Ads, too many of them make me want to never visit the site again.

Oh yes! I forgot about that. You're right. That is another reason I would steer clear of that site. I can tolerate the pop up ads a little. But the porn ads that force a click are really irritating.

The things that make me not visit the website again is if it takes the pages to load, unimpressive content, too many advertisements, etc.

If you click those lewd ads, They will transport you to a survey that will never end then at the end they will ask for your credit card number. Dont trust those lewd ads.

When I was a public library one of the ads popped up. I tried to click it to close it and another one popped up. The more I tried to close the ads, the more ads popped up. I panicked. I got up from the computer hoping nobody saw me and ran to another computer. I didn't want to be blamed for crashing the computer. It so happened on that day it was happening at a lot of the computers. It was a mess!

I hate a website where I have no idea the purpose or what they want me to do when I arrive. People by nature need clear instructions or purpose when they get to a website and that's because people are quick when they arrive and want bish boom bam thank you mame or the they will just leave. Confusion is my pet peeve.

I dont mind a pop up if they will just open a new tab because a new tab is easier to close but I hate it when they open a new window.

I love reading news or whatever article that is suggested by my browser. I usually use my mobile phone to do that. I do not care much about ads but like most of you guys mentioned, the mandatory subscription or registration is what will make me leave the site and won't ever come back. Not all articles we click are worth our time maybe we were just curious because of a nice thumbnail or title and I think that is not fair to give out my email ad just so I can read a random article.
