How to prevent email theft?

Postby niche » 05 Jun 2015, 01:37

How to prevent theft or diversion of emails, by an unauthorized person or company? The email provider is refusing to provide much help, though proof can be provided of the missing emails

You can prevent this by not replying on a suspicious emails such like spams, instant message or other pages that are not safe, try getting feedbacks from forums first before giving information especially financial infos. :)

It appears that some well connected people are stealing all correspondence including leads, orders, as part of corporarte espionage. What is the best way to trace the people stealing the leads, orders and take legal action to prevent the theft in future. Do not have time to reply to emails.

That's a pretty specific question, unfortunately I can't help you much, since you're in Asia and I don't know anything about the rules and regulations there. I think the only people that can really help you are IT.

Back at the last call center I worked for we did Tech Support and ran into email accounts getting temp suspended due to spam emails coming from their account. To get it active again we had to tell the customers to do a virus scan on their computer and to change the password to something very secure. That helped but for some reason it didn't always help.

Don't give your email out randomly, and use a primary email + a 'spam' account

Just use a secure email service , for example Gmail , they have phone verification and also it is not a good idea to give your primary account everywhere , use some junk email.

You could install Kaspersky's email protection, but it's paid. It's a very nice service tho, they scan your emails several times a day and even track back intruders. Another thing you could do is to call your email provider and tell them you are going to sue them because they don't want to take any action.

I usually use a webmail interface for checking my emails, as most of my laptops are hacked. There is no virus in the emails which are sent, just the leads, orders and important emails do not ever reach. Which email client do you use for downloading emails on your computer

Gmail is the best because you are very well protected and instantly you appear as if someone tries to log on from a different location in your mail! I still use Yahoo mail but Gmail is really best to protect your identity!

Don't download everything you find, don't use the same password on all websites, don't click at links in the spam file.
Keep it mind that you may receive phishing links through your emails (The ones that are not in the spam folder)
Happened to me with Yahoo.

For me email theft is like clicking on a link and having get your personal information on a survey offer or something else that also wants the credit card info. So be careful.
