Largest Contests

Postby Sam » 13 Sep 2013, 22:00

What are the largest forum hosted contests you have ever seen?

I know that Fergal, on BusinessAdviceForum, runs a huge ongoing contest with a total prize pool of $20,000. I have also helped out with a few contests on WebGurubb, the largest of which had $300 in prizes.

So what sort of forum based contests have you seen and how successful were they?

In order to encourage people to visit, promote the site, signup and be active on the forum which in turn increases advertising revenue and increases the value of the forum ;)

I agree with you Shole. However, many other forums said that they have a contest with 500$ +, but they didn't pay.

WebGuruBB also now has a $800 contest :D

Other than that, I have not really seen any forums offer big contests Other than Fergals. Even still, only one I seen was the $5,000 one. which seems to now been officialy been a year since that started xD. I can see how that brings in some nice users though so Fergal has good ideas. Where is this $20k one I see people talking about :O

Sometimes it does not work for everyone though xD

The largest contest I have ever held personally was only a $2,500 cash prize. It was not for a forum though. And the money was actually made back in a couple weeks because of the contest xD

Well done, sounds like a very successful contest. What type of site was that for? What did participants have to do, to enter?

According to what I've read, the only restriction is that you have to accept the cash via paypal. It looks like you can ask for alternative forms of payment such as domains, web-hosting, or have it donated to a charity of your choice. So, it seems like there's no country-level restriction. You can always ask Patrick. :)
