Kids and Blogs

Postby thisnthat » 12 Aug 2015, 21:15

If a kid starts a blog, do you think they should remain anonymous? I do. I think kids put out way too much personal information these days, with social media and whatnot. If a kid wants to write a blog, I think that's fine, but I don't think they should release their identifying info. What say you?

I agree that they give too much information, too freely. Some kids just don't understand the dangers out here. If a child wants to start a blog it needs to be under strict parental guidance and supervision. Everything needs to be reviewed and ok'd, and the child should absolutely remain anonymous, especially if they are under sixteen.

It's a slippery slope, because there are way to many predators out there waiting to pounce.

haha I do agree. Most youngsters setup blogs for their personal interests like for fun and not for professional blogging. I personally experience this when I'm in highschool. I setup a for me and my highschool classmates. After I went to college, I never manage it, even take a look at it for the last time until the site and it's hosting was cleared by the site owner due to inactivity. I do think they should lessen posting their infos in the internet space considering there are bad guys that might steal their infos and be used in wrong doings.

I also agree. Although children are at home when they are using the Internet, are not free of hazards.
I think it's dangerous to be so much exposure in respect of children. For example, on Youtube've seen several videos of children to show their room ... I do not agree with this ... :)

I agree with you, they can do much better than us I feel sometimes, because they are very talkative and they know how to write, they have good creativity and why not they can also do blogging. I have one kid studying 8th class got best online entrepreneur for his work and his name is Bishal Biswas and he is highest earner in the blogging sector under teenage.

I don't even think kids should start a blog but if they do, they shouldn't put out too much info because there are some creeps out there. also i would be weary of rude people who like to troll and leave rude comments. I think if a kid started a blog his or her parent should be able to monitor it to make sure no cyberbulling is going on

I agree with you too, technology is cery easy to get hands on especially within the fast-learning kids. They can easily adapt to many things hastily. I agree that they should be anonymous online, because they are the targets of cyber bullying and other social issues.

I also agree, I think that they need to be a little more anonymous 8-)
But if it just little info, I think it is OK.
Good luck!

I think that if you are writing about what you feel then there's nothing wrong with writing about it. Kids these days don't really like opening up to their parents so it's a nice outlet for them. It will make them feel better and it will make them feel welcome to a community rather than being left alone.

If they are going to tell where they live or their telephone number then I don't think that's healthy but there are more advantages of blogging such as starting creativity at a young age.

I agree with you. Why do kids start blogs anyway? To share life experiences? What life experiences does a kid have that is "shareable"? And you make a good point regarding comments. Kids are not mature enough to handle some types of comments and they can be easily affected by them. Even the lack of comments (meaning attention) can make a kid upset.
And we don't want them to become dependent on online feedback and online experience sharing. They should play with other kids, have conversations appropriate for their age. Interact without being behind a computer, you know?

Back when I was a kid, if I wasn't comfortable with sharing some of my thoughts I would write them down in a diary.
If any kid ever sets up a blog, it should be totally supervised by an adult.

If a kid starts a blog they will probably be toxic to him. I don't think he/she should reveal his true identity. But that is just my opinion.

Are kids allowed to blog? I know that Facebook disallows minors from creating an account there that's why kids would hide their age although the posts would show their true age. But with blogs, I'm not sure if children are allowed.

I think you have a point there. Kids should not divulged all their identity online, I've seen some videos about how kids are being exploited using the internet or social media.

If I want to protect my kids, i don't have one at present, I should watch her or him when he or she is doing her blog. I should guide her all through out while doing it so as to protect her young minds. I will surely explain everything. I will not leave him or her while using internet.

I think most kids should be supervised if they start a blog, the parents should have say so over what they post. showing their room is ok but not the outside where they live or entry ways because someone that knows them even a little could figure out how to break in. but if you have a show like ICarly it would be fun for them

but if I were them, I would rather tell my parents if I got problems than posting if to the social media or on personal blogs because they're prone in cyber bullying that may lead to psychological problems and will eventually and possibly lead to suicidal attempts. Go open to your parents than posting your problems and emotions in internet because clearly, not everyone will respect and understand them.

I do think that kids should keep it anonymous for their own safety since there are a lot of bad people out there. They could just be creative anyways and give their self a pen name or something.

I think you're underestimating kids. As someone who works with kids quite a bit, their stories are usually much more interesting than those of adults. :P

My little brother used to do some pretty extensive writing on his Facebook profile, and it was really cute and funny to read it. I think it's adorable to read things that kids write. As long as kids aren't sharing information that could potentially be harmful to them, I don't think there's any harm in blogging.

Not necessary to be anonymous because kids will gain the knowledge from blogs, why be anonymous because they can't start the porn blogs right? according to me kids can go with their real names.

I think this rarely happens, unless that child is creating content to another child, for example a minecraft blog, this blog will succeed because who is writing it is equal to a child who is reading
