I think all forums should have an age limit, and this will vary depending on the content. If it's a harmless forum designed to be all inclusive that discusses family friendly content, I don't see any harm in allowing people as young as say 15.Of course in this case, very specific rules and regulations would have to be set to alert people of the fact that the forum is open to minors.

However if a forum allows the discussion of adult material, anything around violence and stuff like that, I'd say it's probably best to restrict it to 18 year olds and above. I think it'd be easier to answer the question if you cited a specific type of forum, as the answer will differ based on the type of forum.

There should be some age requirements, there are plenty of non paying forums for teens, where maybe the conversations are more age appropriate for them.

As an adult , I prefer to be on a site with adults, not a bunch of teens, sometimes, getting to many young people will have silly conversations and people spamming.

I don't see a reason to age restrict forums unless there is adult content. COPPA already says that nobody under thirteen can be on forums. Some people as young as thirteen are mature enough to be on forums, and others are not. Enforcing the rules of your forum will take care of those who are not mature enough to be there.

I dont find there is any need to restrict any age limit so long as it is a family friendly site , games , PTC, PTV, and survey related site, music and video related site . Age restriction should be imposed only for adult related site .

As long you are 18 and above, I am sure you are an adult age, able to make right decision and respectful decisions

All forums are not having a clear guideline on the age factor. However, most of the online tasks are meant for the adults who are more than 18 years old.

It really depends on the type of content that is permitted on the forum. There was a thread here which asked people their age and I think I saw a 14 year old give his age. On this kind of forum where there is no adult content I think that it is fine. I just looked at the guidelines here and I can't see an age restriction.

Facebook allows people from the age of 13 but many people put a fake date of birth so they can join earlier. A lot of the stuff put up there is not suitable for young eyes.

Age of membership depends on the them of the forums. There are forums intended for children so I guess there should be no age restrictions. With forums about pets, maybe the age should be at least 13. But with this forum, it should be 18 and above.

I agree with age limits as there are terms that the children would not know and we can't explain it to them as forums like this are good for open minded as there are lots of people who already had experienced with different stuff. In order to comprehend more, they should be 18.

I agree with the friends who support the age limit for forums and it is important. Some ads on forums sometimes seems adult and age limit should be here.

I think it depends on the content. If its a sexual forum, or forum about heated adult discussions then there should be a age limit. Stuff anyone can read though doesn't need a limit set. A lot of forums do not tolerate swearing anyways so that is helpful.

I agree with the age limits. I think the proper age would be from 18 years old. Especially if the forum has matured content, it should be strictly imposed. But apart from providing your birthday, is there a way to check? I find that the check alone is very easy to cheat. Facebook has its age restrictions but I find there are some parents who set up their kids' FB pages.

I do not think that forums should just be for people who are eighteen and over. Sometimes teenagers need a safe space to talk and express themselves. I think each forum should have the appropriate age limits.

I personally don't agree with age restrictions. Jut because you are a certain age does not mean indefinitely that you are more mature than those younger than you. That said, I agree that 5 year olds should not be allowed on a sexual forum, but beyond that it depends on the content of the forum and the maturity of the persons visiting said forum.

There are sites for teens, non paying sites, , just s it would not be right for an adult to join a page with teens. Now nothing you can do with someone lying about their age.
I don't even know if this site has an age restriction, but since if offers money or amazon, money is involved here, so can kids really earn?

I was on a site, that was a closed group on fb, it was all adults, the site owner then decided to allow a few teens in the group, she felt they were mature. Well soon one of these mature kids, became a bit psycho, and then constantly kept saying she was going to kill herself, she tried before, so the police were not called. No way to know where she lives, or who she really is. Her mother found out about the group and decided the adults were responsible, and the site owner for allowing her daughter in a closed group without the consent of the adult and started some legal issues. The site is now shut down, we also had an adult harrassing another adult, but under a disclosed name. The police were called in to track this person IP number and find out who they were as it was pretty serious.

To answer you, this site is not age restricted. I'm not 18 and I'm here, granted I will be 18 in about 8 months, but was 16 when I signed up. I think I saw a 13 year old here once, but don't quote me on that. I say if a 13 year old can provide meaningful contribution to fc why not let him join? And if things were ever to get too intense for someone on a forum, they can click the red X at the top right hand side of the Web page and leave.

I think what helps some forums is there is a restriction on what type of content can be discussed. This actually helps the forum to be more family friendly and appealing to a wider population.

I do agree with age restriction, for sites with potentially mature content (language, topics, pictures, theme) but those "for all ages" should be heavily monitored. Arrassment or even "creative" theadjacking happens, so it has to be controlled in some way.
