I want to start a blog, but I know so little about designing one and coding and all that technical stuff. I need "blogging for dummies" or something like that. Is there anywhere online that can take you from knowing nothing to getting your own blog up and running?

I guess I don't know what you would need, coding-wise and such. I know Blogger (blogspot) is fairly user friendly and doesn't really require any coding, but maybe you're wanting something different than what I'm thinking of.

Does that help you, or could you clarify a bit more about what you need?

If you use WordPress (like most people do), the coding and technical stuff is simple to master enough to get you on the road. What is much harder is coming up with a plan that will progress toward your real agenda. No one buys a drill just because they want a drill, most people want a HOLE and the drill is simply a way to get the hole they wanted in the first place.

I try and do everything for free and on-line.

Word Press was confusing to me until I set my self down and read a few articles. Now, I maintain a blog and the only problem I have is finding the time to work my blog correctly.

If you use something like Wix you don't have to know any coding or anything technical. It's more like clicking on things you want to use and moving them around the page and maybe resizing them (or deleting them if you decide you don't actually want it).

Other than that, I think Bellaonline has an HTML course that's free, but I don't think you can take it unless you want to be an editor on the site. It's worth a look, though. I haven't been through it myself, but they apparently teach you how to write for the web and market, etc.

There are so many blogs and tutorials available online to teach you the technical stuff. For beginners, you don't need to learn too much technical stuff. Get started and enhance your skills side by side.

I agree with swalia. There are so many websites that includes tutorials or how-tos. All you have to do is to Google it. There are times you need not even touch a code. It could be a plugin and you have to select it.

I started with Tumblr few years ago. Very easy for a beginner to use. You do not need any tech know how to get you off the ground. While you are at it, you will realize what it is that you really need then go from there. What is important for me is the sooner you start the better.

Mainly if you use a website like Wordpress or Blogger you don't need to learn much to build the site because the coding stuff is already done. What you really need is to write good articles to get viewers and subscribers, you much choose a topic about something that you know well and focus on what people need to know about it. After you have a couple of articles then you need to drive traffic to your blog, you can do that using traffic exchanges for instance. Like oldbuddy said you will find a lot of help on youtube. Blogging is simple as ABC. Nowadays no need to do some programming codes just to make your post get into web publication. What you only need is to register or sign up to any free web building sites and everything is simple. The Internet is filled with so many blog platforms if you want. As long as you know how to read the instructions or following the tutorial video as a matter of minutes you could have your own blog.

With this generation and technology you can learn and master blogging through the internet. You can register in wordpress or blogspot to start your blog. And you can also look for tutorials in youtube. But most importantly put your heart on it, writing is writing but if you do it wholeheartedly your readers will surely get what you wanted to for them. I see this thread is becoming popular, so it must be a question that a lot of people have. Reading through the comments and thinking about it, it prompted me to ask if that is really your question (the technical side) or is your real agenda finding a way to make it pay?

It's true that anyone can get past the technical side now days, but making it pay is a little harder.

For blogs, as oldbuddy said, go for WordPress blindly. You can even try Blogger. Both are simple and you don't have to have any coding skills. It's purely based on Graphical user interface. I recommend WordPress.

You can get information about how to blog successfully almost anywhere online. Look at other successful blogs and study what they have done to become good at the craft.

A friend of mine wants to start one too, I asked what is she going to put on there, she didn't know. Didn't really know how to start. Just wondering if she wants one because a lot of people have it, or she wants it and will use it.
I have used mine for reviews of products, but not I have no need for it, the products I review only need a review on Amazon. so works better for me as I don't really have a need for a blog.

I think there are many tutorials available on Blogspot as well WordPress that can guide you. I have blogs on both but I am so busy with my offline and online activities I seldom find enough time for properly maintaining or updating that my blogs need.
