Glad you said this. Many people don't understand the value of a Sitemap. I don't have a sitemap for my own websites. But there are sites where I am an active article writer and my name actually appears in the search results when I Google those sites. It's because the owner submitted a sitemap for the search engine to crawl and pages of the authors get crawled. It is so cool to see your name in the search results of a website!

I simply create a couple of threads on various forums advertising the site and that it is up for sale. I managed to get a sale through Forum promotion this time.

I prefer to keep that under wraps because it doesn't put me at a disadvantage in the future if I want to sell a similar site ;)

This is actually not true. I have one I do almost nothing on and it keeps dumping money into my bank account anyway. That is called Passive Income.

That's quite interesting @oldbuddy Is there a link on how can I do that or follow you so I can learn more about that passive income? It has been over the internet but scared to try as I don't know any of them.

I don't use Google or AdSense to earn from, I make more by advertising my own agenda and skip those middle men who do nothing but take my profits. The only thing I use Google for is to get high in the search results when people search for information on Traffic Swirl and find my site.

So far I have had over 43,000 visitors this year and it's on the first page of Google search for "trafficswirl" if that's what you mean. That means the traffic is extremely targeted, but fluctuates a lot from month to month (or day to day). You need to realize I have a different agenda in that I don't sell anything or use outside advertising to get paid. It is just a way to get more referrals and it works with almost zero effort.

Learned something new today, @Ash. Although I've never really heard of anyone selectively negotiating a price down if a buyer knows a portfolio of the seller's other websites and how much a website in that portfolio has sold for, if you are dedicated enough, someone could find the information. Good OPSEC protects you almost anywhere on the Internet, although information often exists in perpetuity once posted online.

I should update regularly, but I haven't for a long time. Most of the tips are evergreen.

I used to have a teenage blog though I wasn't making money off it but I have happy to educate one or two teenagers on things they needed to know about their selves and age. It was really fulfilling to me teaching them on my blog.

Yes I do have a website - STUDY MARINE ENGINEERING. But I have not been very active on it of late. Neither have I tried to monetize it or use decent SEO techniques to increase traffic. Actually I am thinking of closing it down.

Blogs require a lot of maintenance. Before you shut it down, think about updating the content and then try to sell it.

Yes, I have a website, even several of them. First of all, because I like writing. Secondly, because I have my business on the internet. Thirdly, I am a bit obsessed with internet things, like online blogs, designs, vector images, learning languages online, attending webinars and lectures online, using different kind of educational resources from which I get some ideas and then synthesize on my site. It is amazing when we can produce something new, isn't it?

Here's a tip for whatever its worth. If you have a Gmail you have access to Google's Webmaster tools. Google has this free tool called Feedburner. If you have a blog then you use this tool to create a feed of your blog posts. People can then subscribe to your blog via that feed which means they get an eMail every time you do a new post. Also if you have a Twitter account you can connect it and each time you publish a new post it sounds out a tweet. I have used this tool for years.
