Re: I don't want to run a forum anymore

Well I will advice if you are getting too stressed up to go for a break. Instead of closing the forum totally I think you may need some time to take a break and rest then restrategise how best to tackle the forum issues. You can copy from other successful forums how they are able to survive in the business.

You could always ask one of the other members to take it over and run it for you. That way you could visit it and make comments without getting stressed.

So, how's it going now? Have you had a chance to de-stress a bit? Have you found any ways to relieve some of the pressure and making running the site a bit easier on yourself? I hope so. Best wishes.

It's so hard to invest so much time and effort daily into something like this, and there are always so many problems that come up and there are no perfect solutions. It's hard, and I just feel like it's taking a toll on my mental and emotional state to keep doing this. I want to shut the forum down, I think, but I don't want people to be angry with me for wasting their time. :( And I really do like keeping in contact with the members of my forum. It's just so hard. Please tell me what to do.

when a business owner gets tired of his business he doesn't shutdown, he steps down as ceo and lets someone else run it. you need to take on partners so you can take a break. find some friends you trust or some members to co-own it. if its a financial drain then that's a different thing.

I think I am just trying to do too much. I will try to pull back a little bit.

So what have you actually decided to do now? Keep going with the forum just taking it a bit easy now? Or taking a break?

It must be hard to keep a forum running but as it's not paid I think people will understand that you cannot continue. You don't have to give a reason but for my own part I like to know if a forum is about to close. It shows respect for it's members.

There are lots of helpful tips here but if you still feel it's draining your physical and emotional well being you should let it go. Maybe now isn't the right time to do this but maybe think about it for the future. Good luck, your happiness is the most important thing here.

Time is a precious commodity--it is limited and cannot be created. We can bake a good pie and earn a degree but no one can make a new day. It is a good idea to save time as much as possible and be efficient at what you do. It is important to do the things that enrich your life. Prioritize your activities and give weight to the things that are most important. See what direction you want to go in life and focus on the things that will get you there. If you need help along the way ask people for help. The ceos of major corporations don't do it all by themselves they have help and plenty of it. Even in the bible Moses asked God for help as he led the people to the promised land. One aspect of life is learning how to make adjustments. Stay motivated and stay strong. There are good things ahead.

Like folks have advised if you are tired of a business the next option shouldn't just be to close it. Take a break or invite someone else trusted to join in managing it. You may also have to take some coaching by business gurus on how to be successful at it.

i don't have any experience running a forum before, although i have thoughts of doing so one day LOL
so i'm curious what goes into running a forum...why is it so time consuming? is it becos u need to moderate each and every posts? so what will happen if u don't log into ur forum for say a week? does it still run? do people still post?

i guess u need to find a couple of trusty forumers/members of ur forum and give them the admin/moderator rights so that they can help u to moderate?

i have the tendency to want to do everything myself so i can pretty understand how u feel. whatever u do, try not to get urself burn out!

Try interacting with members regarding what you know, what you would like to share, and what you like. I would like to suggest to put up a chat room, and interact with people as it suits you. If it still doesn't work, some volunteer moderator's specializing in certain topics might help you share the load in managing a forum ( if you haven't have any ).

I used to own few forums in mid 2000s-2005 and closed them. The reason being the hosting bill piled up. And also I had financial meltdown. i can totally relate to your experience. I think it's hard to run community or forum these days.

I don't have much experience running a forum but I have been around online to realize that despite their high visibility with regard to Google search algorithms, alot goes into them. Why not hire moderators or sell it but retain a share of the same?

I had a experience with opening a forum after one of the biggest Lebanese forums closed down i tried my best to attract users but it was too late to do it i ended up alone on the site.
if now i was asked to open a forum i will think about it twice before doing it again .
