In that case blogger is much better and tolerant towards ads of different type. I suggest getting a domain and hosting if you are serious about setting up a site.

I just checked it out, it started in 2012, so it's quite new. I wonder if it's a good alternative to Google Ads. The minimum payout is also $100, via paypal.
We need to have our own domain in order to qualify for this WordAds. So, if we want to go for totally free blogs, Blogger is still the choice. I agree with you, if we are serious about it, perhaps getting our own domain & hosting is good.

It has worked for some people. It has higher ad rates compared to the Google adsense. However do note that they are the one selecting your wordpress.com account and blog for the ad service. So it is upto them to select you. Same like adsense eligibility. But if accepted you can earn good for sure. In case of blogger, you can use alternative ads than google adsense. I'd say try viglink if possible, it also works too.

I have used both but noticed that customising thru WP is a bit easier than Blogger. Just note that it is just my observation and I am not claiming to be a pro in these things, though :) It could be also to the fact that with Blogger, I used to have the free domain but with WP, I own it. So probably the difference?

Is your WP blog URL like this xxx.wordpress.com? I think it has limited functions as compared to Blogger. You can write your blog posts easily, but you can't add ads and other plug-ins.

When I was new to blogging, I only prefer Blogger as it is easy to do, I am introduced fully to Wordpress through Blogjob and it is now my favorite for it has lots of themes to choose and there are lots of tutorials on how to manage it.

So it seems they need a lot of traffic and people from specific countries as traffic. Also the wordads get embeded into the post. So that is something about wordad program. There are not much details out as of now.

Thanks for telling me this. I think I tried to add ads into my wordpress.com blog a few years ago, I couldn't do that. I am not so sure about wordad program, will need to find out more about it. ;)

I think the scheme is quite limited and you don't really control what ads they have. It's an option so that people can choose, but it is most people opt to self host or 'map it' by upgrading and changing the nameservers.

I'd say if you have monetization in mind then avoid Wordpress.com plans. The reason being you wont be able to use the monetization properly. Also the earning from their own Wordad is not high like adsense. So taking all these things into consideration, you can decide what works for you.

This is a very interesting discussion, but my there's so much stuff to consider! You guys are so knowledgeable, too. I'm going to have to watch this thread closely if I'm to make the right decision. So far, it sounds like WordPress is the way for me to go for now, but which to choose, .com or .org! Clearly, I have a lot of reading to go through. I never thought I'd be here weighing up my options for a blog hehe

I would prefer to go for .com as it's more popular, especially for commercial or personal use. .org was originally intended for non-profit and non commercial organization. I just found out this restriction has been removed, and anyone can register it. But, I just registered an .org.my domain for a client, I need to submit some forms and the registration number regarding the organization in order to get it approved. So, I think some countries might still have the restriction. I am not too sure about this.

Thanks for sharing your inputs. But in the "unlikely" event that Adsense application did not work, is it the better alternative?

Thanks for your response, cessy_08...that really helps :) My head is now in a spin with all these options!! I've also stumbled across an Apple app that promises to make blogging easier. I want to look further into that too and see how it measures up against Blogger and WordPress.
