For a free host, I'd like to recommend 000webhosts, for a free host they give 99% uptime and are really good, decent diskspace and bandwidth too, so if you are looking for a free host, you should check them out.

Travis wrote:I love ErrantWeb mainly because I own it. However if I didn't I would still like it, I personally think I offer pretty good hosting on real hardware out of Detroit. For my second favorite it would be HostGator before they got bought out by EIG.

Do you still own ErrantHost?

One of my favorite hosts was Host Jiffy. It had an interesting catch to the name.

I'm not sure what hosts are really good at the moment. Many have closed over the years. I wouldn't speak highly of HawkHost, due its cramped shared hosting. Empire Hosting was really one of the best out there. It's sad that they had to close. :(

I truly love Hawkhost, amazing, professional, and experienced company. I recently started using them about 2 months ago and have had no complaints with them.

My favorite hosting company is Hostisto. I have been with the host for a couple months now, and it has been awesome so far. I would recommend Hostisto to anyone.

Isn't forum promotion hosted on that too?.

I'm with errantweb. Good disk space and bandwidth, have had to 100% uptime so far and the support is great.

I use hostgator. I don't really use my website for much apart from testing PHP which I am learning at the moment, so it does the job at a decent price.

I've seen many complaints about HawkHost, especially from WordPress users. The loading times were often slow with their shared hosting. How was your experience with them?

When I used Hawkhost I never experienced any speed drop, however issues with emails kept arising and I migrated to HostGator and haven't had any issues since.

What issues did you experience with e-mails? Were the issues with e-mails that you sent? Or did the host send you spam?

Well, HawkHost's shared server appears to be overloaded. A speedtest will show the toll it takes on websites. And the prices aren't friendly either.

Higher priced web hosting seems to be much better than those offering 'unlimited' web hosting for only a dollar or two.

According to them I was sending hundreds of spam emails and I was restricted to sending one email a day, and after several tickets informing them that I used my emails only for my business I eventually gave up and moved to Hostgator and I've never had a problem ever since.

I was using HawkHost until I saw this post. I created a test account with StableHost to test their services and I am extremely satisfied with them. I am now hosting full time with them and the discounts they offer are excellent.

I've never heard of StableHost before, how long have they been on the go? Although some hosts that are new will last forever I don't trust brand new hosts or hosts I've never heard of before.

I believe StableHost was founded in 2009, if I'm not mistaken. Based on their customer reviews and my experience so far, I can safely say they are reliable. I've paid for 3 months up-front, so I'll be sure to check back and tell you if I'm renewing (which I think I will be).

If you get back in three months I'd be very interested as I'm always looking for new hosts and what they can offer value for money.

Re: What is your favorite hosting company?

I left HawkHost for quite a few reasons really. When I started hosting with them, they were smaller and seemed to really care about customers. Their support was good any everything worked. We had quite a few issues with FP when that was hosted on HH although it could be argued that it was the size of the site causing the issues with slowness etc. What I have noticed was that no matter how large your site is, it seems to be slow... especially php based sites. I was running a few sites that caused me to very rarely hit any limits they set such as no. of processes & CPU. They were quite often slow for prolonged periods of time.

The main issue that caused me to leave was emails. I always have had an occasional issue about once a week when my i devices wouldn't be able to connect and download my emails. The connection would just time out. My other email accounts would always work fine. That was not the main issue though. HH added SpamExperts that seemed to totally stop all emails getting through to me. After a few days it was not sorted and it did go a couple of without a response to my ticket about it so I thought i would move hosts. I had been thinking about moving anyway. Since then, no issues whatsoever with emails, speed and just the a small number of minutes downtime. Their support seems alot better aswell and you seem to be able to get a solution or answer with their first reply and not being given incorrect information or having to be passed onto someone else.

The reason why I chose Stablehost was because they seemed to really care. Treating customers like real people and not a number like bigger hosts but they have also been around a while and know what they are doing. Also what actually sold it to me was for Black Friday, they didn't offer really good coupon codes to new users to try and get more customers. They offered a coupon for existing users to renew their hosting at a very good price (65% off).
