I do click on ads like that so I can tell that it attracts me anytime I see it. I use it too when a certain forum sites requires or allows it. I do know the size, but the ads that you are seeing in this thread is enough for it to be seen by members.

I used to affiliate but i came to find out that i was getting banned by most sites because of this.I love doing direct marketing rather affiliating.

I have not tried it , I can not say clearly about their results . More 've read some testimonials from people who have had good results

I've seen lots of forums with 80 x 30 (not exact) pixel banners at the bottom. Do you do this and do you find it brings in much traffic?

I do affiliate marketing through content link embeds. I am sure people who use banners too get some good traffic depending on where the banners are placed.
