Re: Posting Contests

I think a further break-up will attract more users. Like 1 gets $3, 2nd gets $2 and the next 13 get $1 each. That way 15 members will get the benefit. You will still pay $15 but more people will be interested and you will save spam posting while too many people will be contesting for 3 spots.
I think the issue with that is that you will attract a lot of low quality content because users looking to post high quality content won't be interested in small prizes like $3.
I have experimented with that in our forums for years until past year. WE had fixed rules for filtering out/overlooking the low quality/spam posts. We fixed the minimum number of posts per member to qualify and no one was allowed to quote or reply to anyone. We provided a particular niche for the contest.

My forum is close to hitting 500 posts so I'll probably do a contest when it hits that milestone. Should be in around 2-3 days hopefully.

I think that would be a great idea! Contests make forum environment more fun and exciting. And, more frequent contests means more winnings, which will definitely lead to great engagement.

We hit 500 recently so a contest will definitely be appearing soon. Unfortunately, I'm moving to a new place on Saturday and won't have internet for a while so it will be delay until I get internet again.

I am no good at contests as I am working on number of writing projects. I prefer to post in forums at my own pace therefore, no good at winning any forum posting contests so far. If there was a rule of minimum/maximum posts per person per day then probably I would consider joining it.

I mean, I'm looking for some active paid forum posters if that is more of your thing. I don't think it would be fair to have a min/max count for a contest.

Would that be something that interested you?

This would be so interesting. I love contests and it would be great to participate in one.

I hope the contest gets more activity on your forums and gives it a growth spurt. Usually people get more active around contests.I also hope you could have a referral system to attract more members..

More frequent contests will be interesting and will also pull members to the site/forum.

I think a more frequent contest would work better. You can slowly entice more and more members to the forum (market the current contest to existing members via email and promote to new members).

The worry with contests is that you end up attracting only those interested in the $$ rather than being part of the community. And the biggest worry with a posting contest is the quality of writing and posts being made.

Let me know when you start this contest. Maybe I will participate in it although I am very much sure, I will not be in the winners' list.

So you have decided the results for you even before it was announced? Very sad.

Agreed. I think what's important is to have some basic idea of what is good so people that keep spamming/posting low quality content are kicked out of the contest.

For anyone interested, I've delayed the contest for the moment until the forum hits 1000 posts which should be in a few weeks.

Definitely. Whenever a forum has a posting contest, I think you always get a few members that try to push their post count by a large number by posting simple one-worded responses. It's important to block this.
