I like the illusion my forum is having more new members and the spammers with their post edited makes the illusion

That was the right thing to do but you can't really be editing posts all the time, you have to do something about it, like you could try to warn the member cause banning is not an option.

I need them though so my veteran members will see an illusion that my forum is growing. Editing the spammers had given revenue to my forum because it looks active.

I did a similar experiment on my blog. I edited the spam comment to a look like a genuine comment. I can't say what the spammer thought if he ever came back.

Change the spammer's password,

I also learned a new technique, Merging the account the spammer with and inactive member after I edited their post. This would make it look like my members who haven't logged in 84 years came back

On my site, registration is not required to leave a comment. Therefore, the spammer my not come back to my site again. But editing spam comment to make it look like a genuine comment will give an impression that my articles are getting engagements.

I learned a new gimmick, After editing their post. I merge their accounts to the accounts of inactive members who hasn't logged in for 6 to 10 years. It deletes their accounts and makes those abandoned accounts look active again.

Maybe, but they will need to login to findout, so if they see posts under their name, then perhaps they will come back to check.
