I've heard that skype is easy to hack, so I only use it with people I trust completely.

I've heard that there are a few free options that are good, but I haven't tried them. I have had good experiences with both Ventrilo and Mumble. Mumble was a bit more confusing for some people when they tried to set it up, but I liked the quality. It also adjusts everyone's volume, so you don't have to go in and change them individually, which is a nice benefit.

I use skype while chatting with son and some times it will not open, so i use Hangout and sometimes yahoo voice and video chat. I am satisfied with both skype and hangout

Skype has been a leader when it comes to both voice and text chatting. Skype is my best well as there are players like Whatsapp for PC, etc that make it even more perfect and easy even with a low speed connection.

I use Telegram for desktop, I find it really good. I have also used Skype and it is also good appl for VoIP via PC.

Discord is the best voice chat that I use. We use it for our team and community discussions/ meetings without any hitches.
