Re: Is this possible?

It is possible as I was a member of Morachat, another forum site which is not existing now, that depends the earnings through the length of your post. Because of that, the members are posting like they are sharing a movie. We receive good pay but our hands are near to having carpal tunnel  .

I could say the above in alot more characters but it will just waste time of people reading it. I could have worded it:

The biggest downside to giving users Forum Currency for every character they use in their posts is that users will be tempted to try and fill their posts with pointless words, quotes, examples and so on just to try and increase the number of characters as much as they can.

That is twice as long as the first part of my post while saying basically the same with a bit of unneeded information in. Length is not always the best measurement to judge quality. Having some sort of "Is this post helpful?" rating and giving forum currency for every "yes" they get may work better but even that is open to abuse.

If it only rewards after a certain number of ratings that could prevent abuse.

A forum should be one to all.The ratings are not good at times.A post can have a long length but contain meaningless information.Length does not matter as longs as a post is cool and informative.

Excuse me for barging in. I just want to know why some forums employ their own currency. I have joined some forums and I probably have earned thousands of their currency already but they appear to be just numbers.

I belong to a site where quality and quantity are the key to being successful (WebAnswers) because this is what Google Adsense recognises as being worthy of payment. The only thing with this is people write ridiculously long posts which are padded out with unimportant details. I used to skip reading these posts because why write a book when you can say the same thing in a few sentences.

I much prefer a place like this where you can read and understand every single post.

I think the way fc is paying these is very good. As the topics or the categories get more visitor from the searches get more point than with the lower important category like new members introduction. Important in terms or traffic and ad revenue.

Another idea to make members more active would be to hold a daily but small contest that awards the most active user(s) for that day. ForumCoins awarding limit (17 posts per day) could stay the same for everyone. Just that the most active user (or top 3) would get a bit more coins for their effort. This could drive users to be be a bit more active due to the competition. 8-)

But on the downside, some of the users could also only spam and just post pointless stuff to get higher rankings. :(

The idea is not bad, but I prefer the currently way that FC pays out, it's just fair and works very well.

I think they can set it up but for me I prefer a forum with no numbers of characters or words required.

Very good idea, but I'm excited about the additional feature where we can earn more on what the admin Sir Fergal saying.
