If the $2 a month for your own site is too much, then I guess practicing for free is better than nothing. Just be aware that Blogger and the free WordPress have a habit of terminating sites that use their service to make money.

My sites are hosted where they include AWstats in my cPanel, so it's simple to check whenever you like. You don't get that with most free sites, so it's one more thing that justifies me spending $2 a month for mine.
