Re: Earnings from blog

Postby garys.pdx » 09 Nov 2015, 03:21

How much you can make from a blog has a direct relationship to three things: 1) Amount of traffic. 2) Type of traffic. 3) niche.

If you picture these three things in a Venn diagram the sweet spot is where all three overlap. If you have lots of traffic in a popular niche and the traffic is interested in buying what your advertisers are selling the skies the limit. But if any one thing is missing your opportunities are severely limited.

So if you want to make good money with your blog you will need to put the effort and time into getting traffic to your site. Most big advertisers aren't interested in advertising on your site until you have at least 10,000 unique real visitors a day.

For a good analyis of this problem check out https://www.quora.com/How-many-visitors-per-day-does-a-site-need-to-draw-any-significant-ad-revenue Then go buy yourself a cold beer and figure out how your going to do it.

In my opinion sites like Blogjob will get you to practice on how to make blogs get into the technical stuff of handling formats like Wordpress. People should also research on SEO and how to get to Google page one and how to get traffic. So this is a lot of hard work. eventually you do have to find your niche and start your own blog. because sites like Blogjob will keep the money that is supposed to be solely yours. You must own the "outfit" to get the money numbers rolling. :)

This is very true. I find that these "micro" blogs are far quicker and easier to maintain though, and hopefully the owner is also helping promote the site and garnering traffic. It's a side thing, but at the end of the day, yes, your own blog would eventually become more lucrative.

For me, it's finding the time to get it all done. I still need money coming in while I'm working on the blog, and I get too caught up (spend too much time) on slow earners to make those extra dollars. Vicious circle in action.

Correct me if In am wrong, but don't most of those micro blogs use WordPress? If they do, maintaining them is exactly the same as your own blog would be. The actual setup should take less than an hour to put you on equal footing right out of the box, only you have control over what the rules for posting are and you keep all the money generated.

The problem is to get a google adsense account approved. I want to know how can we apply adsense code to our wordpress blogs as wordpress doesn't allow any outside ads. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Simple, set up a self-hosted WordPress website. If you earn at least $1.33 a month average in AdSense you will come out ahead.

My biggest problem was getting traffic to my website/websites. it is so difficult, and then to get them to view the ads is even harder.

If you create your own ads and talk about why you like a particular deal, people who have the same problem you had are more likely to click.

Like anything else earnings from a blog are directly tied to effort and creativity. I've known people that make a nice livable wage from a blog but for every one of them I've seen hundreds of people that aren't willing to put the effort in and are always looking on the other side of the fence for greener pastures.
