I like replying to threads if I actually can help or have something relevant to add. I've started threads for problems I needed help with or to ask questions, its a good way to get other opinions

I feel that both contributions are necessary. Some people, however, are better at replies, and others are better at starting threads.

This is true. I think both are important. I like to do both. Sometimes, it's easier just to reply. Other times, I want to start a thread if I think the topic will be interesting or helpful.
