That's true to some extent, but themes that are too bright can also be rough on the eyes. I find that brightness hurts my eyes much more than a darker theme does. Well, I should clarify. Dark copy on a dark background can create strain, but if the copy is clear and bright enough, it works.

If I had to choose between only those two, I'd choose a darker theme every time. I get that bright looks nice and clean for business, but try staring at a bright, white screen all day. It's harsh. I much prefer something more subtle (some light grey, light blue, like this site for example) than the far ends of the spectrum.

I think dark themes are cool.I'm using a dark theme on my website and it's really looking great. But it depends on you, some people like dark themes and some people like brighter theme. Most of popular websites have a darker theme,so I guess most people prefer darker theme for websites. :)

From the days of old, I would associate black themes as underground websites, mostly talking about software and media downloads then the bright ones are usually fan forums. I like both, but it is the ease of navigating the forum I am more fond of.

I'm fine with both but I prefer brighter themes. Not super bright, but like ForumCoin here. Dark themes can look super good if done correctly.

Dark Theme. I find it soothing when reading some texts on dark themed webpages or etc. But its gonna be good if it's a light theme. Depends on how the page/paper/book shows shows it on the readers. It must be balanced.
