Re: Should blog owners edit comments?

Its not right. People opinion should be from moderation but of course it should be about the content not the spam comment. The article writer should correct the bad sidE of the article after getting suggestion from commentator.

Yeah, and you do have a point. I guess they just should have done a better job. It just almost feels like it doesn't make sense now, really.

It's not even under my real name, but it is a name I use for paid posting. I don't want other people to see it and think I made that comment like that.

I don't think it is right to edit comments posted by readers. If the moderators do not like the comment they can simply delete it, however, they don't have any rights to edit comment. I would never edit comments and I would also never approve my comments being edited.

Well, now that I give it more thought, I guess I don't really have any right to question it. It was a paid comment, so I guess they can do whatever they want with it. It just hit me the wrong way, because it sounded so bad when they were done messing with it.

I don't feel like it's right to edit someone's post even though it is just a comment from another member unless the comment is just a spam. An informative comment should stay while a two word or three word comment should be deleted.

It is better to not edit comment because they took your point for editing. I already lost 3 points. From now I'll try to not have mistakes :D.. I also think that is wrong to edit comments from other members.

Well I'm obviously against it. Editing comments is not a good idea.
If You comment anything about any site. and the owner edited it and give them a negative comment. That might be hassle later :/

So, I'll say no without any doubt.

I think this is impossible. I have a blog and I receive a lot of comments, and I can't edit them. (I'm using blogger).

But even I had this power, I'll never edit a comment. This is the reader opinion and I don't have any right to change it. I think this is very very very wrong!

I personally do not think blog owners should edit comments. If the submitter is not following the rules of commenting, the comment should be deleted. As mentioned by the OP, sometimes a moderator edit can completely change how the comment sounds.

I see that sometimes spammers are doing spam so better remove the comments

It depends on what the comment is, if it is unsuitable it should be deleted, if it has a mistake or two, maybe editing it is for the betterment of things.

I remember that Hubpages does that. Kept editing articles and comments which is quite annoying. It would be appropriate to give options to authors whether to allow edit on comments. Sometimes, original comments are worth to read.

thisnthat wrote:I'll give an example: I posted a comment on a blog, and the moderator edited it, which of course is their prerogative. The problem is that now the post sounds completely stupid, nothing like what I would write. I'd rather they had simply deleted it than have a dumb sounding comment with my name on it.

They edited it for SEO purposes, not because I had done anything wrong.
I sometimes edit readers comments if it deems fit. But mostly I spam them of the comment is irrelevant to the topic. For me, I agree that admins should edit comments although adding their own may be something I wouldn't recommend.

I really don't like the idea of the moderators altering my comments on blogs. This is because they tend to distort the views that I intended to put across.
