There is no limit for activeness of forum, if any body or members does not post any thing in the forum then it is inactive. This may be cause the forum does not have any attraction to attract the people, just like mylot site it is paying initially and more members are coming when it stopped paying for posting then members are away from the site and they depend other sites for earning money.

It really depends on how you attract people to the forum and if they're interested enough to stick around. Usually it takes a couple of months.

Good luck to your goal in making your own forum. You should learn new things that you ara not aware before creating it on your own and the process can be done for a short period.

Based on my experiences with other forum sites before, I think it depends on the earnings, promo, rewards to make the member interested to stay in the site. I only stay in the site that pays me because it is hard to earn money as I need to pay for my internet, but enough about me. If a site is consisted with bonuses like that, it will be a great thing. However, as the forum is just started, anticipate the few people working on it and in the long run, you will find technique on how to get them to believe in the site.

Promotion of a forum is important to let people know that your forum exists.
To really keep members active, you have to offer something that'll make them want to stay there.
Just think about. There are thousands of forums out there. What would be so special about your one? What do you have to offer the members? E.g: ForumCoin is popular because of it shares it's revenue with users and such.

I'm not saying a regular forum won't be successful, or that you need to have revenue sharing like ForumCoin.
Just come up with something to make people want to be active there.

But in the end, a good promotion is what really matters. If a person's friend is active in a forum. He and his other friends will also join in to socialize.

Once you launch your forum in the domain, it is already active and you can post whatever you want. But the proper way of launching a forum is inviting people so there will be posts right on the first day of launch.
