Re: do you back up your content

Postby simonex » 03 Nov 2015, 11:45

I back up all my writings, no matter on which blog I posted them- my personal blog or on other writing websites' blog- it's good to have a record of the personal work in the case something will happen.

I agree, I am lazy too in some cases. Not only a full backup takes a lot of time, but it is also not very good from the view of cost and environmental. More backup's will use more storage. A need for more storage will mean the need for the purchase of more storage media, and the need for more storage media will lead to the total production of the storage media to rise and, will do damage to the environment. A good thing always has its bad side, sometimes putting your content on the line slightly will do better to our Earth, and your wallet.

Although I've never lost my content, I have had to move them from one site to another whenever a site stopped paying or closed down. So I made sure I backed up my 'good' articles (unlike the ones in Bubblews) which made it easier for me to upload in my own blog now.

It seems like on my Word Press blog that I have an add on that backs up my files.

On my personal blog I have the files stored in my computer and keep them in a separate folder.

I don't just backup on one device. I use multiple devices, because you never know when a device is going to decide to need reformatting or just stop working,

Earlier, I had already given you the importance of saving your works. Now the next point is since you have lost them in one of your sites you said, is how to recover them. Everything that is published online, there is always what we call a shadow copies which could be found in cache. Try to search them in the Google for there is a copy in the said cache. If you could find them, copy and paste them to your safe storage or computer folder.

oldbuddy wrote:I do backup my blogs.

Anyone who thinks having them on Blogger is safe, I feel sorry for them when something happens. Blogger blogs get terminated all the time and people scream and cry because they didn't have any backups. I only use Blogger for linking purposes, not content I value.

Thank you for telling us this. I have my blogs in Blogger as well, though I know it's owned by Google, I still think I need to do a backup to my contents. Just to be safe. Though those are not important contents, they are my personal journals for years. I would not like to lose them.

Well, being said that, I haven't do any back up yet. This is always put in my to-do list. I need to look for what's the better way to back up the contents from Blogger.

Thank you for the reminding, I will have to do this very soon. :)

I always save my online articles on a word program before I publish on website or blog. I lost my content during the initial days of blogging, however it only happened once.

I always keep a original copy of all my posts on any site by adding it to that site name folder but the best way I find is to share them on twitter and other media sites so you can find all your work safe. You can check everything from anywhere or from any computer.

I never did so. I do not need to keep a backup as I have nothing to do with them in future.

I always backup my contents on a word program. I learned this lesson after I lost over 150 articles on Helium.

Depends. I, for the most part, back up my settings and control settings.

As far as the actual blog goes it is kept in a folder where I can pull it up and look at it.

Most free blogs have no back up option since you don't have access to file manager nor allowed to install a backup plugin. If you can, then you have to use the manual way where by you will keep replacing the file every time you update your blog with new posts. For Blogger, go to settings and select Export. For WordPress, log in to Admin, go to tools and click Export.
