You hear more about Linux if you are around the right crowd. I tend to hang with people who don't have a lot of money to spend, so they don't talk about Mac's much.

LOL. I don't talk to people who talk about mac coincidentally. It is usually just things you hear and see advertised. Apple Mac is a really popular brand and product, so it makes sense that that would be in the forefront. I have glimpsed Linux here and there before, but never looked into it or knew what it provided until now :)

So far the site that I often visit and work with has no problem as far as ads are concerned. I find no problem with this site, ForumCoin. There are no pop-up ads. No unwanted, irritating ads. Though my adblocker is on, my browser Google Chrome finds nothing disturbing about this site.

I second that. I have no issue with FC's ads. They are not malicious ads, or the kind that jump out and slow your computer down.

The site BlockAdblock has some interesting articles on the subject (as well as a script you can use to force your visitors to disable adblock). The comments are rather sad... :(

When ad track me, install malware, take up bandwidth that I pay for, and all on my equipment, you have no right to dictate anything to me. I am here and see no ads. I killed the script.

People undervalue content a lot.

I wonder how many people don't even realize they have adblocking turned on? Some browsers have it set by default and require effort on your part to turn it off.

Opera now has an adblocker built in aswell and does create prompts to encourage users to enable it when they install the browser. While Opera may not have a massive share of the browser market, it is still used by many tens of millions of users if not hundreds of millions of people world wide and that is alot of people that are being prompted to enable an adblocker in a click or 2.

1 thing we can be sure of though is that Google will not include an adblocker in Chrome

You can say that again! I wonder if Mozilla Firefox will decide to include an ad blocker at some point in the future. They are non-profit, so they wouldn't have any reason not to do so.

Mozilla have a very vested interest in not installing adblocker by default: their revenue. Here are the old figures for what Google paid to be included as the default search engine in FireFox:

Recently, apparently, Google has been paying $300m / year to be included as the default search engine. However, Mozilla has now formed a 5 year deal with Yahoo and I very much doubt Yahoo is paying that sort of money.... (but only their 2015 annual report will tell). I believe there was a note in the 2014 Mozilla Annual report which mentioned that search engine royalties are tied somewhat to user actions (i.e. if they aren't clicking ads, Mozilla probably isn't making money).
