Re: Do You Leave Comment on Old Posts?

Postby tpicks » 17 Aug 2016, 19:29

There are posts that are no longer new but still very relevant or of importance today and even tomorrow. If I find such posts and it interest me I won't even check to see when it was published before dropping a comment.

I am the same, which has gotten me in trouble before whilst working for forum owners who were strict about that on PL. I would always check though, just to be safe.

The thing is, new people are joining the forum all the time so I would think it is beneficial to dig up an old post rather than keep repeating the same topics over and over. When I worked on WebAnswers people used to complain that there were too many questions being asked that already been covered umpteen times.

This would be the logical thing, but most new members don't want to have to go through the trouble of trawling through forum archives.

I do it all the time. I find that I can not always keep up with what is going on in the forum, so I backtrack to see if there are any titles that interest me. Viola, I always find a title that does indeed. I read, write and then hit enter to post.

I am usually going to forums for a specific topic, and for a specific answer, so for that reason I seldom search the archives. But then I will go to forums that I don't want to have to sign up to, so I will search the archives then.

This comment would revive an interesting discussion that has waned.

Yes, I do that too. I don't really care about the age of the post, if it sounds good to me I drop a comment if I have one.

I agree, but when you are a paid forum poster, you have to be careful about bumping old posts, unless the forum owner is telling you that that is alright.

Most of those old posts contain easy to reply information, they are general knowledge posts which of would not put alot of thought into. I don't reply to old posts. As a rule of the thumb, I avoid pumping threads if they have alot of replies. I go to those with no or little responses to add value.

Sometimes I do, although I don't expect to necessarily get a response if it's old. If I do, I'm thrilled! But I figure it doesn't hurt to try, and it might even revive an old topic.

As for me it doesn't matter if I get a response or not. I make comments to air my views.
