There are times in the past where I paid the whole amount for the year but never got everything where I wanted. This is why I have been very back and forth with it. I am to the point now where I want to let friends see what I am doing on Facebook but I would like to design a website my own way but I know that takes time and money. As much as I like blogspot I am tired of the ".blogspot" as part of the domain to find me.
And thanks for sharing that with me I did not know the possibility of them shutting people down, that is sad... I suppose a monthly fee would be better and easier right now. April is a bad month for me because I have to renew my car insurance and pay for registration renewal on my car, so the money I am trying to make is going towards that plus my regular bills. I hope in time though to get enough together and enough ideas down to go to my own website.

What was your experience with Weebly? If you liked it, maybe you could start a free one there and upgrade it to paid hosting after a while. The monthly thing might be the way to go, if you are unsure. I've considered it as well.
I am just repeating something that I read about some the free sites. I've seen several people say that when they started to get lots of traffic or to make money they got shut down. You can check out Warrior Forums, since that's the first place I saw it.
I have to wonder if some of them didn't break rules (I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use affiliate links). Either way, they do have the ability to shut you down for any reason they deem appropriate. I don't like the risk of that after putting in a lot of time and effort.

This is the first I've heard about that. I wonder whether it's accurate or whether there have been bigger reasons for shutting people down. If it's true, it's a worry to me as well, but I'm certainly not planning to move my blog unless I'm forced to.
Possible, but of course, people don't tend to mention if they did something wrong.
