I have used the host where the website the little globe links to on a free Sub-Domain since June of 2008 and it works perfect for splash pages @ $1 a month to host it, but the sub-Domain is free. I get 1 Gb of disk space and 10 Gb of bandwidth and notice it loads fast.

I have been using them since mid 2008, so termination is the least of my worries. I have posted hundreds of websites for various campaigns and never had a problem

If I want to open a blog, I won't use a free domain because it is always seen as unprofessional. I doubt you can even monetizate a site using ad networks on a free domain.

Visitors prefer top domain names than subdomains. I also end to buy than using free unless is for testing purposes.
