Personally I find that Yllix.com displays the best looking ads but whether you earn very much is a different matter.

Have you tried media.net which is one of the good alternative for Adsense. But the rates are bit less when compared to Google Adsense. Media.net is a company giving contextual text ads. I think you can try this.

simonex, Adsense isn't that much hard as you think. I got my account approved within 24 hours and Start promoting its ads from next day and make my first $1 in 2 days.
