To answer your question, many people try to cheat the system by using auto-clickers and bots. A captcha makes it harder for them to do that so that's why we have them. They don't bother me most of the time but sometimes it does get annoying. Some captchas bug me because even if I do the prompt correctly, they don't let me through. They'll have me do the prompt again and again until they're satisfied. I really don't get it.

It is true that captcha stops spammers, however unfortunately, captcha also stops real commentators.

It is interesting sites which are using captchas.I would prefer just simply clicking on some images,just like in PTC sites,and it would be not so time consuming.

Almost all the sites require captcha to sign up I think it's a trend and also it proves you're human being and not a robot.

Captcha has helped to reduce spam activities reasonably, it is good to have it on sites but it should be programmed in a simple way so as not to discourage people

Captcha as they say prevents internet bots from accessing the sites. A bot cannot figure out the figures in captchas nor identify what a captcher asks of it.

This dates back in the first phase of online shopping when intelligent programmers used bots to place orders and in one way corrupt the system so their online payment was authorised.

This though they uses fake card details. The system having been corrupted by the bot would place the order and authorise delivery. Using a bot to hack a site was very easy then.

Captchas though have also become very annoying. You can literaly spend 2 mins on a silly captcha that keeps on repeating itself. I personaly hate them and easily avoid sites that use them.
