Re: If you paid for posts, what rules would you make?

Postby remnant » 07 Sep 2016, 17:33

I would in addition to the rules in the OP introduce an incentive. I would allow those who exceed the number of posts to place a fixed number of ads and forum signatures alongside their posts depending on the intensity of their activity. This would be automatic for those who don't earn from posting to also benefit from a revshare model.

I would make sure that people wouldn't just make spammy comments just for the sake of posting. Some people on here start random threads one after another that don't provide any real info or place for discussion. And there are some people that post meaningless replies.

I have a forum and once considered using PL. My main criteria would be to have respectful posts that add value to the forum. Quality over quantity, and while one sentence hit and runs are common with paid forum posting, I would only enforce it if it wasn't a response.

No trolling, no silly question threads that are worded so obviously (I loathe things such as 'What's your... questions') for the sake of creating a thread.

If I were to pay for posts, my rules would be fairly simple. They would have to be at least 3 sentences long, and contain proper english and writing skills. An occasional mess up is no big deal, but it drives me crazy to see people who posts, and a 10 year old could write better, and be more informative.

That's what I though too, at first. Then, he started banning paying customers too. I really don't know what to think. I guess it does boil down to money, since the ones who get banned give higher ratings, which means he has to pay us more.

Yeah, he hates people who are happy with their poster's work to the point where they are giving out 5's often. He is a stingy little man, and that comes across very intensely.

The irony is that one should be happy to boast writers with a 5 rating and to have them as 'elite' whereas now elite is anything over 4.5 which to an outsider is seen as just above average.

There are some writers who shouldn't be even a 4 in some cases, but somehow wangled their way in. All systems have flaws, but banning an owner who has quality posts and rates them accordingly is silly. According to the PL rules, the average is calculated anyhow, so that 5 can get watered down easily to rebalance things. Rules are always in the PL forums favor.

Hmmm. I could see something like this. I think I'd just make it where anyone who posted over X amount of posts per day (or week/month whatever) would be allowed to add links pr ads to their sig or something. I wouldn't want to differentiate between paid/unpaid posters (since I probably wouldn't want anyone to know I had paid posters). I'd just go by activity instead. I can see this being a decent incentive if it's a popular forum.

@lexi, I agree. But though he wants good posters, it's not about the quality. It's about how that translates into his bank account, therefore it's a bad thing to him. It's both a smart and bad way to do business.
