Congratulations to Google! I think Google has been doing really good since they started. They keep improving their services, and what I like is that they always offer their products and services for free, which is good for users.

I heard yesterday that Google has now passed up Apple, and is now the largest tech company in the world. Pretty amazing for something that started out as a project of two graduate students!

That is true, yesteday I read that Gmail, the company's longstanding email service, now has 1 billion monthly active. This is the seventh billion-user service for Google, which also includentes Search, Chrome, Andriod, Google play, Maps and Youtube.

A small point, but I think what they have is 1 Billion accounts. Sometimes one customer can have multiple accounts.

Gmail is pretty amazing, I love it. So far it's my favourite email account ever. I was late joining the party as I only set up my account last year. I have Yahoo mail to thank for that, because I only set it up because my 2 Yahoo email accounts were playing up. I not surprised gmail is so popular.

Gmail is better than anyone else in the business. So, it is an eventual outcome.

I wonder if Gmail could start charging for it's users- something like what Whatsapp does ($0.99 / Yr). Would bring them in a decent amount of extra revenue. I can't see myself exporting all my emails to find another provider unless the cost is $20+ / yr.

Gmail is protecting my email for the past what 8 years? I love Gmail too. I trust it because it comes from Google. I am not a technical person and what I shared about is about satisfaction with the site. That is why it reached 1 billion customer for satisfaction sake.

Exactly word for word what I was now about to post

A charge like that in the grand scheme of things would be ultimately negative. It will put off the next generation of Gmail users who will open email accounts elsewhere, it will annoy current members who feel they are forced to pay as keeping their email is important, also after payment fees and discounting all the spammer accounts and inactive ones, it probably will not bring a great deal of money in. Also by discouraging new registrations with a fee, they will not be able to keep as many people using the Google network of sites/services which may lose them money elsewhere in their business.

Now that WhatsApp has made it free for ever Gmail will probably not think in terms of making it a pay service. Besides they are already earning lot of money indirectly.

It is good news. Google has been doing well since its inception and attracting several customers with its satisfactory service and user-friendly interface. Gmail is my favorite email service.

It has come such a long way.. I still remember opening my first Gmail account in 2005 when they had the invite-only system.. each user could invite 50 others to Gmail..

Wow, it goes that far back!? I only 'got with the program' last year. I mean I've always been aware of gmail, but it never excited me. But the minute I started investigating it, I was hooked. I think it's the best out of them all. For me, anyway :)

Now anyone can have as many accounts as they like and I imagine millions are sitting dormant.

Gmail should put into consideration that some users may have multiple accounts which could make that figure not exactly correct. That said, a big congratulation to Gmail for this great achievement.
