Do you have a forum?

Postby Vinaya » 04 Feb 2016, 01:25

These days forums seem to be better platform than a blog. For a blog you need to create content but for forum contents will be created by the users.

I don't think owning and managing a forum is not an easy task, but is is a more responsible task than a blog site. You have to be alert all times to take care of spammer in forums.

I don't own a forum, but I do participate in a lot of forum sites. I want to set up a forum site but not yet for now. Maybe in the future.

While self-generating content would seem to be an advantage of a forum over a blog, I would argue you have to work far harder in order to attract people to post on your forum. There are other disadvantages of forums: finding advertisers/ networks that accept you, moderation, that you are generally forced to find volunteer staff, content control etc. Forums are less popular and active than they once were. Social networks have taken their place e.g. Facebook groups/ pages.

I am starting something "similar" to a forum. ;)

Yes, you're right. The forum sites don't need long contents in 300 words or more than that then we can earn money.

I don't own a forum of my own, and quite frankly, I have neither the intention nor the desire to. I've heard it takes a lot of work and energy, both of which I can't spare at the moment.

The problem that brings with it by default, is the content isn't always of the caliber that brings more activity and hence more revenue. Then if you try to control it, you are likely to drive away more good content than your participants generate. I would say from my personal observation, there are more people online trying for an easy buck than there are those willing to contribute the valuable content and accompanying actions that a forum would need to excel.

I do not have any forum. I write to many, though. making a forum may not be a big deal, but it is difficult to sustain in a competitive environment.

I used to have one years ago, but it wasn't for making money. I've thought about making one for that purpose. I really wanted to make one similar to this one. It would have to make some good money though, in order for me to put up with all the headaches. I'm rethinking that idea.
