FREE & GUARANTEED

Postby oldfriend » 25 Feb 2016, 22:57

These are two words that I feel have been abused and overused in net-working.

So much so that I think they are becoming a "Liability" and your Web Site, Blog, and Articles will suffer greatly when you use these words.

When I see something on T.V. that I like and I only want one, I normally will not buy the item because I get a second one FREE.

I don't want a second one FREE. I just want one at a fair price.

Anyone else feel this way?

Oldfriend

But wait, If you reply within the next ten minutes, I'll send you a second comment FREE! (Oh, just pay me shipping and handling.)

I know what you mean, I see a lot of hosting plans that gives you a free domain 1year for a purchase that is bigger than $10, but I just want to host and already have a domain.

I get what you are saying and I agree. It is not really free because you have to pay shipping and handling. If I wanted two I would order two. I guess they figure that it makes it sound like a much better deal when they offer something free since people love free stuff. What I really hate is when they say that you would normally have to pay X amount but through this special off get it for x dollars. If it is really worth $99, how are they making any money by selling it at $19.99? I exaggerate but that is really how it sounds.

Lol. I like your sense of humor, OP ;) ANd I have to say that I agree with you. Often the one item that you want will cost more than it otherwise would have, due to the fact that it is part of a promotion to give away a second item for free.

What is worse to me is getting an email touting the amazing properties of a one time deal that will be gone if you don't beat the clock counting down and the product is software that doesn't cost a penny more after the first one is sold. Why would anyone in their right mind terminate selling it when there is no added cost no matter how many are sold?

I was recently tricked by "free." I was looking to create a logo and was searching for free tool.I found a websites that said free logo. After I created logo, it asked me to pay $60. The word free was used as a trick.

That's when I would do a screenshot and leave.

Ha ha, that was good.

Yes, I agree with this. I get that they use these tactics for a reason, and they probably work on a lot of people, but I'm not one of them. I hate feeling like I'm being taken advantage of and will refuse to buy on principle.

I also agree with the limited time offer thing, which is often just a lot of hooey.

I am scare seeing those two words! Nothing is really and actual free; and guaranteed is very sketchy. They can always use some kind of reasons or excuses to not guaranteed anything and there isn't a thing you can do about it.

Countdowns are another pest, yes. If there is one thing that I don't respond favorable to is any sort of manipulation or peer pressure. I don't like being given a limit in order to get me to pay for something, or pay more.
