Forum Network

Postby Darthmaul » 24 Mar 2016, 23:25

Has anyone here started or considered starting a forum network? I mean a network of forums that revolve around an idea or group of games/etc.

I have never started one, but I was approached a few times. I don't think it's a viable idea, as there's too much work required with running just one forum successfully. Plus, if one person is working on every forum it can be very easy to neglect duties.

The idea of owning a forum network does appeal to me. However, when I really think about it, I'd much prefer have one really large and successful forum, rather than a number of smaller forums. The most forums (of any significant size) that I owned at any one time was two. Even two forums is difficult to manage and when I did own two forums, one of them generally didn't receive the time and attention it deserved.

I agree with @Fergal . It would be soo hard to maintain those forums. If you dont get enough revenue from the forums then you cant pay smeone else to do that work for you... This is just my opinion.

From my little understanding of starting up forums it seems like it's a huge responsibility given that you need to be on toes to get it going and it needs finances to keep it going so I don't think I would want to start up one and I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is impatient coz it needs a lot of patience too

I think you definitely have to be prepared -and devoted- to spending a significant amount of time and effort to do this successfully. As noted, one forum is a handful by itself. Would you be doing all the work on your own or would you have help?

Some forums can be quite low maintenance which does make it easier to manage multiple forums but some (such as ForumCoin) can be time consuming due to the work needed to maintain it and all the custom features needed for the site to run. A simple forum with little to no addons can be updated in seconds and if users are not rewarded for posting, they typically moderate themselves and with a few good moderators, owners don't have to do a great deal.

Unfortunately all the forums I have owned or help run have been quite complicated forums which do involve alot of work to set up and maintain.
