Does your hosting auto-renew?

Postby thisnthat » 07 Apr 2016, 15:34

I never even thought about it, to be honest. My hosting was going to be up in about a month, but it auto-renewed a few weeks ahead of time. I get that it's probably a good thing, to ensure no down time, but it caught me off guard. It's just a good thing that I had enough in that account to cover it. I have now removed my card info.

Does yours auto-renew (early) or do you pay as you go?

Usually I use PayPal (and also not set up a PayPal subscription) in order to avoid this. Companies like to take the money as early as they can as they would rather it in their accounts where as personally I would rather it in my account for longer.

It does mean that I have to make the Payment manually but it also means that I can make the payments when I know I have sufficient funds in PayPal or the bank account connected to PayPal and I can decide when the payment is taken rather than suddenly noticing one day that a payment had been taking.

No, I do not like the idea of auto-renew for my hosting and domain, as I might change my hosting plan or if I have decided to stop working on the business, I will not want to continue the hosting anymore. I'd prefer to renew it when I know I have the need.

The first time I signed up to my hosting, I think I selected "PayPal subscription", and I had no idea it was for auto renew. I changed my hosting plan when it was time to renew, glad that I was able to get my refund for that.

I set mine on auto-renew, and I will get notification about two weeks ahead of time about it. I will go into my admin account to make sure everything is correct, and then let it be.

I love having this feature and this option! Believe me, I lost one good blog with page rank 3 for not setting it on auto-renew, and this blog was making me good money too. During the time of its renewal, I became sick out of the blue, and couldn't take care of anything, plus my bank account was hacked. Long story short, I wish I had kept it on auto renew!

I am not a party to auto renewal. If I feel or think I am still interested in the service of the company I personally engineer the renewal. Who knows while I was being hosted by a particular site I might have out of curiosity come across others with more fantastic package.

My primary business includes hosting and I have a monthly subscription from PayPal so I never worry about it. I have other side ventures (like Forum Coin) that make sure the funds are in there to cover it.
