Do you use free image sites?

Postby thisnthat » 10 Apr 2016, 18:57

Do you borrow images from sites that allow you to use them for free? Pixabay is a good one. Morguefile is another one that I have tried, although if I remember correctly, you are supposed to alter the images somewhat before using them. That makes sense to me, so everyone isn't using the exact same thing. It's also cool for making a collage of images.

I use my own images on my blog, but I've used these sites to provide images for other sites I worked on that require an image.

No I don't use free image sites because I don't get to do posts that require images

Yes, I always like to get free images from Pixabay as well. I learned about that site from Bubblews. Besides that, sometimes I searched in Google Images and changed the usage right to Labeled for Reuse.

Sometimes I like to get icons from iconfinder.com too.

Yes, I use images from Pixabay or Wikimedia. I make sure I never use any image from first or second row in pixabay as these are from shutter stock with water mark. I also avoid images which are not free to use in Wikimedia.

No, I haven't tried it to do it for my own blog since I take my own crappy photos for product review, recipes and nail polish review anyway  But for freelance writing clients, there were times I had to do it for their requirement.

Yes, I too use a few, but out of them all, I find Pixabay to be least fussy. I also use Flikr, MorgueFile and Pexels from time to time

I mostly use my own images on my blogs and if I have to have images on my articles, I use Flickr "Creative Commons, commercial allowed". However, this is not always safe either, because the license can be changed at the owner's discretion. It happened to me when the owner of a certain photo I used, contacted me and asked me to take it off because he was no longer allowed users to use his image. It is better to be safe and use your own.

I have used pixabay in the past. Pixabay is straight forward and easy to use. I just wish some of the images were more relevant to the search request.

Yes, I use free image sites, the one I use most is Pixabay, but I also search for it in google images. I only use it when I need for my blog, because most of my pictures are photos that I take.

I never heard of iconfinder. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

Some more options I didn't know about. Thanks for sharing.

I think I heard of Flikr but never tried it. I didn't know about Pexels.

It isn't always clear if you can use pictures in your own projects or not on certain sites, so I usually end up saving pictures and using them in my own things anyway> I use Pinterest a hell of a lot for that.

The few sites I use are search engines and I see a photo I like, I make sure it has no copyright rules attached to it. I have a couple in different blog posts.

I have not had to use images yet, but these are good sites to save for future use. But I think for the most part using your own image if possible is much better.

Yes, I use a few of them, I usually like to chose ones that already stamp a watermark so it is obvious that a picture is free licence.

I never thought about that. That's a good idea.

I like the ones that make you alter the image before using it. Your image is then "original" since it isn't the same exact thing that tons of other people are using all over the place.

Morguefile doesn't have good stock of images.. I use pixabay a lot.. again, you find a lot better images in the ads from shutterstock that appear below the suggested images of pixabay.. but they are not free to use :D

I sometimes make use of images from pixable but with care as I strongly believe in using my own images.

Most of the people that I talk to who take pictures from sites to use in their own content, do not bother to check if they are actually allowed to use the pictures unless it is made obvious that one can or cannot use it.

I use public domain pictures mostly from Pixabay for my blog posts. I find it as a nice and easy to use site.
