How to block a DDOS/bot attack which is using up bandwidth for a wordpress blog, so that bandwidth is not exceeded for the wordpress blog? The webhosting company is not allowing login till next month so that the problem can be identified.
You could try using something like CloudFlare. We used their free service on a previous forum and it appeared to slow the site speed down a little. However, it might work for you and perhaps they have improved since that time.
First of all a hosting company should sell you the unlimited bandwidth and if you don't have it, drop that hosting and pay a decent one. I have the same crap over and over with a few hosts, the only thing they wanted is more money. Second, you can use the CLOUDFLARE.COM, they have all kind of protection systems and tools.
You have a few options: - Cloudflare (might not fully work to stop a DDOS). You may have to upgrade to pro/business as well. - Serve image content offsite. - Use an OVH VPS (which includes protection). - Put your site behind a reverse proxy: https://www.x4b.net/. - Use BuyVM and setup a GRE Tunnel: http://buyvm.net/ddos-protection/.
