Suggestions for my forum

Postby shamzblueworld » 20 Jul 2016, 04:35

Hi guys! I have this forum for my university students ForumVU.com
VU stands for Virtual University, that is the name of our university.
Now I am thinking of broadening or expanding it for students of other universities as well, or maybe for international students too, is it a good idea? What do you think?
And secondly if I were to make it a forum for students or independent learners, would that be a good idea? For example our university focuses on studies of Computer Science, Programming and IT, and what if I want to make it for other people interested in these areas to participate or join in too? So far it only has material and discussions about our curriculum stuff, should I strive for making it a general forum for those fields of studies?

Please share your input and ideas or opinions.
Thank you

The wider topics and approaches you cover the more beneficial and nore traffic can be expected. As you will be able to cater for different needs of various group of students. So I think you should expand your horizons and sky is the limit. Best wishes.

Maybe you can test it out by trying some extra forums or sub forums that are geared toward a more general audience? Have you thought about polling your members to see what they think? How will they interact with non-students?

The world of IT is huge. There are plenty of blogs and forums that are a jack of all trades. They cover a huge assortment of discussions on technology which only skims the surface and miss the heart and soul of the subject material. Having an in depth approach will help a lot of people learn more about the material and really benefit from get the essence. It will help you stand out and it will give you more credibility than other platforms.
Yes you should open it up to a wider audience--not just your students and not just students but people all over the world.

You forums looks good for sure. And also there are so many threads created already. So it is good. Try to have better conversation as I can see less replies on it. Best of luck for your forum.

The forum looks neat and organized but I can see only less traffic there. The concept is very good and it will attract more discussion about education .Hope it will be more popular in future..

I realize that you want to grow your forum, but I think I would expand somewhat slowly. You don't want to get overwhelmed. Do you have a staff to help you moderate and such? Are you also a student? You don't want to spend all your time taking care of the forums if you also need to study. Just a thought.

Thanks, I also think the same now. I do have a couple of staff members but they are also students as I am too. So I think I'm gonna have to take it slow.
