Whic is your favorite forum script ??

Postby NomanProdhan » 18 Oct 2014, 09:11

Hello Everybody
Lets share our opinion and choice about forum scripts........
I like the MyBB forum scripts because its free and open-source. Besides its really very easy to use.

Let me know about your choice ???

I use phpBB and VB and would say that my favourite is phpBB. However, I should say that I couldn't manage a phpBB forum very well without CyberFreak's help.

Personally I am a big fan of phpBB. It is not the easiest to work with from an admin point of view but I do still prefer it overall for the following reasons

  • It is not bloated with alot of needless features. Some people seem to think the more features available and the more settings in the ACP the better but I prefer things a bit simpler and more streamlined
  • phpBB3 does have a pretty decent security history
  • The UI is quite simple, not full of fancy JQuery features at every opportunity or social network like profiles. It makes the forum more user friendly in my opinion to people that are not computer literate. If you put a user who is new to forums on a Xenforo forum and a phpBB forum, I think they will feel more comfortable on the phpBB forum due to the less (and in my opinion needless) things that it offers. There is less for the new users to learn.
  • phpBB is free. I don't see why you need to pay for a forum software when there are so many great free forum scripts available

Agreeing to all your points, isn't it better if it all comes easier? And that's MyBB, all that you mentioned above, only it is easier and lot less headache in updates and adding plugins.
What you say about that?

My personal favourites are Xenforo and Mybb. Xenforo is extremely user friendly. I especially love the ability to copy a post into Xenforo and have it keep formatting and images etc. This is so useful when you are advertising a good or service like webhosting. Xenforo has a decent admin backend too. Mybb is nice and customisable. With mods and a great theme, Mybb looks great and is also user friendly. And it's free.

Phpbb 3.1 will have plugin/extension support so updates will be as easy as MyBb. Also MyBB's security is not even close to phpBB's. Other than that MyBB is a very good software and would be my second choice.

I agree with CyberFreak on his first post. PHPBB is really great and alot of people is telling that installing mods/plugins on it is hard, well it is not really hard if you know how to read and understand English. You have everything written in Readme on how to install certain mod. Also themes are really great and have alot of features on them. Security is also very high and Mybb has a problem with alot of spam bots registering for no reason.

I used to have a MyBB as well as a PHPBB forum. I found MyBB much easier to use than PHPBB but PHPBB was better in terms of support.

So I'll be waiting for that release, and also we'll see what the MyBB 2.0 brings to the table as well.
