Codeacademy

Postby Dusan » 25 Oct 2014, 06:58

There are 4 out of 5 people who really want to learn coding, but don't just know where to start. Say, you want to learn Javascript but don't know what HTML and CSS, that isn't right, basic first and then those hard ones.

Codeacademy
Codeacademy teaches you the languages and all other things about coding. Codeacademy also helps you to improve your logical thinking. Codeacademy works like a game, you learn things, then get badges, continue your progress, and win. The thing is, you win and learned coding skills!

I recommend starting with HTML and CSS course, it's easy course so don't worry. And second will be Javascript and JQuery, this two will be tough one, but worth to learn. Anyways, good luck learning!

I second the recommendation for CodeAcademy, it really is an excellent resource. It doesn't just give you the info on how to code, it actually teaches you how to code, through the various coding exercises on the site. I've recently been working through the beginner HTML lessons and they really are excellent.

It's free to participate on the site, so if you do want to learn to code, try it out. If it works for you great, if it's not for you, that's fine, move on to another resource.

No.

Ofcourse you can if you want to learn, but if you don't want then answer is no. Learning something new is never easy, but as time is going it will become more easier for you. :)

Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I already knew basics of PHP so most of the lessons there were easy to complete.

I learnt basic Python there. However, I still prefer how W3Schools teach PHP. It is easier to remember and.. oh well.. better.

I am actually using codeacademy too now to learn other languages there. It is a wonderful site with a very good way of teaching you how to program.

Nice thats good to know Fergal. I am currently working on those myself at the moment. After I am done with it I will go and learn PHP and Javascript. I am kind of caught between picking PHP or just using Javascript to make my databases...not sure yet...

If you need something for databases i would say it is better to learn PHP then Javascript since they PHP is used in databases. :)

I honestly don't know which one of those would best serve your database needs. As Dusan says PHP does work very well with MySQL. However, I believe that JavaScript is easier to learn than PHP, so it might be a good one to start with.

Javascript is not so easy to learn. And if he already knows HTML+CSS it is much easier to learn first PHP then he can move on Javascript.

Choose what lesson you want to learn.
On left side you have navigation and how to guide for that lesson.
On right side you have your place where you type codes that you are learning in lessons.
I don't see anything hard in there even for a newbie on that side,it is all well placed and if you can read then i don't get your question, since everything is written on site.

I just finished two courses on codecademy and on the weekend I am going to go back and redo them all so that once I am done atleast I will have an even better understanding of the web designing process. The one that gives me trouble at the moment though is Jscript so I might probably work on that over and over again until its fully imprinted into my memory.
