So, today I revived an email from a well-known MyBB powered forums. Saying that their forums were hacked and.. asking me to change my password. I changed my password and head over to MyBB Community Forums. I checked the 'Security Management and Support' section. It was shock to know that three MyBB forums was hacked!

I dont have a forums that is using MyBB Software so.. Anyway, backup your database today would be a smart choice.

Not going to name those forums that got hacked, well you can check it yourself. Anyway, the two forums have their showcase threads in ForumCoin too.

Well if you are speaking about new version of MyBB then there is nothing unusuall about that. It is new,hackers found a bug or something that they can use for their advantage it will be probably fixed in update.

I'm not sure what version of MyBB is that (probably MyBB 1.8). I'm just alerting those who are using MyBB.

You should always backup your data (files and database) anyway whether or not some other forums have been hacked recently or not. Make sure that your forum is upto date along with any plugins and uninstall any plugins you don't use and you should be as protected as you can be if you have a secure and unique password also.

Thanks Fowler, I try saving the backup every other week, but I think I should take backups every other day if not everyday.
Searching for an auto backup plugin for mybb or some sort of script that can perform this.

Good thing about MyBB is that even if your forum gets hacked, no one will be able to see the member passwords as they are encrypted before being save to MySQL DB.
BTW, what type of hacking it was? SQL Injection?

I didnt see this thread before, but anyways AdminAds was hacked also. But we wernt effected much as we had almost every backup till the last point. Its same users hacking everyone, they go by the names of spooks and shades.

It's always good if your webhost takes backups and allows you to access them. Saves a hell of a lot of time/ effort.
