I had one domain which I hosted on the google apps. And now that google apps is going to stop supporting the free domain service. I am guessing I need to find another hosted mail app service.. I think that way I can get the custom domain mailbox.

This is news to me. Google is making changes even before they start anything. Not right at all. And these Apps are applicable only to mobile I guess. May be you could google and find out about other mail domains. Good Luck.

You could try Zoho. I have mail accounts there using my domains as it works well for what I use it for which is mainly forwarding
