Posting a disclaimer on a website

Postby niche » 17 Oct 2016, 00:46

Do large companies and extremely powerful officials spread false rumors that their lazy friends, relatives are owning your websites to divert correspondence, deny opportunities for years, ruin your reputation? If yes, do you post any disclaimer on your website, to avoid being exploited, cheated and defamed.

Simple answer, no. I don't pay much attention to conspiracy theories, especially against unknowns.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

I'm not sure what kind of disclaimer you are talking about, but yes, placing one is a good idea. As for spreading false rumors, that is called defamation and you cold sue them. However, you must prove that the claims are false.

Most large companies do place disclaimer on many things, but on their website I think not much, unless they offer a service. For example on the disclaimer of free and open source software it clearly states that using something is on their own risk, for websites it could be free file hosting websites that will not be responsible towards any kind of inaccuracy and data loss.

I was required to have a general disclaimer on my blogs, and some even wanted on inside the individual post that I was writing for them. If you want to avoid trouble, having one won't hurt either.

The thing with big companies doing anything against you means you're being set up from the top hierarchy. Unless the top people in that company admits for that. Understand that the people in between the middle and bottom are thugging you. So it's not the company but often the people who are working for that company does that.

if the disclaimer gives an idea to the visitors of your website, it will help them to be more knowledgeable and constraints of what they are trying to enter. I will agree to that kind of disclaimer.

I suppose if you stick to an ethical standard of operations in your website, you can afford to ignore such cases of defamation as people usually try to delve deeper into the issue if your website is of value to them. It is also good to make sure that at least you have a forum where you can clarify any matters arising or something like that.

I think having a disclaimer on one site is good, even monetizing tool like google AdSense makes it compulsory to have it on your site before approval. It keeps one away from problems associated with blogging.

General disclaimers are not a bad idea. I would disclose affiliate links and such for one thing. If you're talking about health stuff, I would add a medical disclaimer ('not medical advice' etc.). Legal too. Like that.
