Warez

Postby Sam » 05 Sep 2013, 03:20

How do you deal with warez/ pirated stuff being posted on your forum? Do you allow it to a certain extent (depending on what it is)? Do you ban the user? Or do you delete the thread/ Post?

The forums I own don't allow links to illegal content or Warez. Hence, I would remove the post and ask the member not to link to it again. If they continued to ignore the warning and post the content I would give the account a temporary ban.

I agree with you Fergal, but I don't remove the post, I just send it to the trash. ;)

I never allow it as it can put my site in the risk of getting banned. I delete the content or remove it from public viewing and ban the user and associated IP's.

I personally think no matter what the site, and who is posting it, it is always a bad idea to link or host warez.

I have strict policies on warez, same as Fergal:

It depends on what it is. I'd probably allow links to places to watch free movies and tv shows. But generally I'd remove any piracy/warez and would never ignore a complaint for it to be removed. I believe as long as you swiftly remove the content after a complaint you won't get into any trouble for it.

Warez can cause some serious problem. I have seen some sites being shut down due to it.

I don't allow any warez sites, links, or anything in between. Not only does my hosting provider not allow it but I don't support it either and think its unethical.

My methods exactly. Only in my case, if the person keeps posting these links, then it eventually works it's way up to a permanent ban.

Discussion of warez is permitted, but actually linking to warez is not permitted. I don't believe that your site can be shut down unless a warning is sent first and ignored.
