Well, I guess I'll use this topic to talk about a few registrars.
Register.com is decent. It has a cheap domain creation cost, but it's usually more expensive for renewal. It's not easy to transfer to other registrars either.
Name.com I haven't heard much about it. It just doesn't stand out that much.
GoDaddy.com I think Godaddy's pitfall was its support for SOPA. Other than that it's a relatively decent registrar. The renewal costs are usually somewhat high, while first year registration is usually low. Support may or may not be good to you.

Namecheap Namecheap wins with its policy to uphold customers' concerns. They have a good support team. Prices may not be the cheapest, but the pricing scheme is definitely consistent and reliable. They have quite a few sales going on every year.
1&1 I used to hear that 1&1 was the worst registrar to ever exist. Users reported all sorts of problems. I don't really know what its standards are these days.
