Website vs Blog

Postby ksridharprasad » 01 Mar 2015, 08:33

Hi Friends,

I think both website and Blog both are same, if both are same why website require maintenance but blog does not require any maintenance or hosting charges. Hosting charges will cause some cost but the blog does not cost any thing, any one share your experience about this.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. A blog is a subset of websites. Blogs will tend to be higher maintenance than ordinary websites.

Are you talking about how some companies offer free blog services? I'm not sure I understand either.

From the point of my ( unsure ) view, I think blog is a platform for people to share information or as a e-Diary for less charges than a website. A website however is a place to sell things, marketing, advertising, sharing and a lot more uses but tends to require more effort than a blog. :P

Yes, especially for Blogger, because it is not indexed in Yahoo and Bing unless you set them up. They only receive slight advantage on Google. I don't know about Wordpress because I never went below the tip of the iceberg to investigate what's happening. :P

Hi Friends,

We can also place ads on our blog, but here no expenses does not incur, for a web site we have to pay holding charges and for advertising also.

Blogs are normally free but there are expenses for maintaining a website, for instance: hosting, domain charge

You can have a free hosted website aswell as a free hosted blog. Equally you could host your own blog or website although you will incur a small cost but ultimately get full control over your site. It is up to you what you use and depends on your budget and what you want your site or blog to be (like a small fun project or a serious business opportunity) so there isn't really any cost difference between the two.

Hi CyberFreak,

Thanks for the response, I know that the holding charges for a web is below rs 100.00 means less than 2 dollars, it may not burden to any body. But when I do not know to create a good blog/site what is the fun in wasting money for the site without monetization.

This is the main thing that separates a blog from a website. How you want to organize your entire web content determines whether you need a blog or not. Blogs are actually web logs —where the content is stored in a chronological fashion (much like a diary). New content goes on top of the existing pile of material (like a stack).

Blogs are dynamically built using a content management system (CMS). A content management system is a collection of tools and scripts designed to allow the creation, modification, organization and removal of information from a website. Using a CMS requires an user to have no HTML or coding knowledge to get started (ie., WordPress, Joomla, Blogger, Drupal, etc.).

You pretty much describe perfectly what is a CMS ! Thank you for sharing this over here ! I am a Web Developer and I can't tell more that what you said... Except that an HTML and PHP languages basic is pretty useful even with Wordpress or any other CMS :)
