Do you affiliate?

Postby Sam » 06 Sep 2013, 06:02

I've seen lots of forums with 80 x 30 (not exact) pixel banners at the bottom. Do you do this and do you find it brings in much traffic? :)

I've used 88x31 banner buttons to help promote Business Advice Forum. They are small, but they are used by a lot of publishers and are a good way of getting some cheap advertising. I haven't actually swapped banners with other forum owners, however.

I used to affiliate quite often in the past. I never gained any members from it, but perhaps I just didn't wait long enough.

I currently do not allow affiliates on my forum, but I may allow it later on.

My forum is still new, so I will take time to implement these things.

When I ran a forum I used to affiliate, why not it's free advertising after all. ;)

For me personally, I hate the look of these types of ads on the forums, so I never allow them. I may use them on others website, never have seen results from them though.

The regular size is 88x31 and I was affiliated at over 30 websites in this way on PromoBB. It's a nice little way of gaining free advertising and they look good presented in the correct way. I find it an effective piece of advertising considering how quick, easy simple and free it is. I'd recommend it to all.

I am not doing it right now, but I plan to. I think it's good, advertising + backlinks, so why not.

If you affiliate with sites of a similar size (or bigger) which has users that would be interested in your site then it can be good. There is not much use in linking to a small site about female fashion and having them link to you if your site is about male hairdresser reviews.

I do not. I have in the past but I feel a lot of it has to do with the niche and if it will benefit in some way. I also feel that sometimes members may prefer the larger forum you affiliate with over your own. With that being said, I don't affiliate with any forum that I have now. I may be friends with an administrator at a competitor but I don't share their 88x31 on my forum.

Yes, I affiliate only in my blog. Later I will provide a banner in my posts here too. I'm an affiliate in Amazon and ebay.
